The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 is one of this year's key events, and it's currently a hot topic in the CS2 media circles. Among those discussing it is Mykhajlo "kane" Blaghin, the active coach of Passion UA, who recently shared his opinions about certain teams in the ongoing Major and their chances of success.
What Kane had to say
In his official Telegram channel, Kane posted a two-minute voice message earlier today, right after the morning matches of the Elimination Stage, which we recently covered. For more details on the results of those matches, check out our article.
G2 are worth watching, while MongolZ are at their peak
Kane began by discussing his personal favorites and the teams to keep an eye on. The first team he mentioned was G2, led by the legendary player NiKo, who plans to leave the team in the future. According to Kane, G2 have a solid chance to reach the playoffs, even though their current form is far from perfect.
For me, two teams stand out the most. The first is G2 with the legendary NiKo. This tournament is his farewell with G2, a team with whom he never managed to win a Major. Although G2's play hasn't been impressive so far, they should make it to the playoffs, largely due to the Major's system.
The second team Kane highlighted was The MongolZ. According to him, the team is currently at the peak of their form.
The second team to watch is The MongolZ. They're at their peak right now, but that doesn't mean they can't rise even higher. It will be interesting to follow them because, at the moment, no opponent seems too intimidating for them.
NAVI and Spirit as outsiders
Kane also commented on teams that, in his opinion, are far from being favorites and are unlikely to achieve much in the current Major. The first of these is NAVI, who suffered a crushing 2-13 defeat earlier this morning. According to the Passion coach, the Ukrainian top team has lost the peak form they showed earlier in the year, and this tournament isn’t theirs.
NAVI have already passed their seasonal peak. Although they’re trying to show something now, I think this tournament is definitely not theirs.
The second team was Spirit, who defeated NAVI. Kane believes that Spirit showed promise at the beginning of the season but currently don't look like the best in the world.
Spirit, with Donk, also started the season with a good story, but right now this team doesn’t look like the best in the world either. However, the rest of the teams are still finding their footing, so for me, this Major is primarily about the two teams I highlighted initially.
It's worth noting that Passion UA, along with coach Kane, also competed in the current Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 but exited the tournament in 17th-19th place after the Opening Stage. Stay tuned to our portal for more updates on all the matches at this Major.
