One more team through to the next stage.
With the fifth round beginning in the first stage of PGL Major Stockholm 2021, it is almost time to finalize the standings going forward to the next phase of the event.
One of the favourites to win the entire event, Heroic, struggled mightily in the best of three setting, losing to both Copenhagen Flames and Entropiq, but the Danes started strong in the third attempt to make it through. Eleven rounds on defence against Movistar Riders on the latter’s pick of Inferno was enough despite the shaky start to the second half, as Heroic’s offence got them over the line at “16-7”. The Spanish unit started strong on Overpass, winning the first four rounds, but could not keep up with the Danish offence, which switched to the defence with a three round lead. Movistar Riders still equalized the score and fought back to reduce the deficit to one in the later stages of the map, but Heroic held on to win the map in regulation, “16-14” and the entire series, “2-0”.
With that result Heroic are finally through to the second stage, where they are likely going to face one of the other favourites, Ninjas in Pyjamas or Natus Vincere, while Movistar Riders are the sixth team eliminated from the Swedish Major despite their superb performance throughout the qualifiers and the tournament itself.
