After a long losing streak to Natus Vincere, G2 finally managed to break their losing streak by winning the BLAST Fall Final 2024 Grand Final in Copenhagen.

The emotions after the triumph were so strong that the tournament MVP, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, admitted in an interview with HLTV that before the match he felt rage and thirst for victory. These feelings helped him and his team to win the long-awaited trophy.

For G2, the win was a landmark victory. A 0-9 record against Natus Vincere put psychological pressure on the team. Each match was a test of resilience and perseverance. However, everything changed in Copenhagen as G2 won 3-1 and took their second title in 2024. This moment became even more important, because NAVI under Aleksib, according to many, were the favorites of the final.

The importance of the first map and the psychological tension

The first map in the finals was won by G2 with great difficulty. m0NESY said that winning the first map was especially important as it gave the team extra confidence. “All the maps were very close,” m0NESY emphasized, describing the dramatic nature of the fight. On the Mirage map, when G2 led 9:1, it looked like they were almost there, but NAVI was able to get back into the game. However, despite losing their advantage on Mirage, the G2 team remained confident, which was a key factor in their success.

Epic clutches and emotions

One of the most memorable moments of the tournament was m0NESY's clutch on the map Inferno, when he killed a player who had planted a bomb in a 1v2 situation. “Honestly, after the last clutch, when I killed the guy planting the bomb, I felt like writing 'disconnect' [in the console]. I don't know why, I think just because everyone started screaming,” m0NESY shared. That moment was a turning point in the finals. The support of his teammates, particularly NiKo, who reminded m0NESY to defuse the bomb, also played a role in the victory.

Thirst for trophies and motivation

m0NESY, who is the MVP for the third time in his career, emphasized that his main goal is to win trophies and not individual awards. “I really want to win trophies, and everything else is just an added bonus,” he said, adding that the victories of other teams only increase his motivation. In 2024, G2 won only one tournament before the BLAST Fall Final, and for Ilya it was an additional incentive to win.
