KRU Esports is the final participant in Valorant Champions 2023 from the American region

Late last night, as part of the grand final of Valorant Champions Tour 2023: Americas Last Chance Qualifier, a match was held between two Latin American representatives, KRU Esports and Leviatan. As a result, the favorites, KRU Esports, won after 4 intense maps.

Match breakdown

The match began on the Split map, which was the choice of KRU Esports. Keznit and his team effortlessly closed the first half of the game with a score of 9-3. After swapping sides, the situation didn't change significantly, with the favorites only allowing their opponents to win 2 rounds, taking the last 4 for themselves. The match ended with a victory for KRU Esports, 13-5.

Next, the teams moved to Pearl, where the underdogs of the match managed to secure their first victory. The first half of the match was nearly even, with a small lead in favor of KRU Esports, 7-5. After the side change, Leviatan gave away 1 round, after which the team caught a second wind and won 8 rounds in a row, securing their victory. The match ended with a score of 13-8 in favor of Leviatan.

With the score at 1-1, everything pointed to the fight being even until the very end, but KRU Esports players had a different plan. The third map and their choice, Ascent, went completely under the control of the favorites. Despite the first half ending with a score of 7-5, a comeback did not occur after the side swap. KRU Esports took 6 rounds, losing just one, ensuring their match victory with a score of 13-6.

The last map where Leviatan showcased all their skills was Lotus. The first half of the match was even, ending with a score of 6-6. After the side swap, KRU Esports took 3 rounds in a row, which became the main reason for Leviatan's loss. Leviatan tried to come back by winning 2 rounds, but thanks to a 3-point gap, KRU Esports just needed to exchange rounds with the opponent, and play for fatigue. The match ended with a victory for KRU Esports, 13-10.

As a result of the match, KRU Esports receives the final invitation to the upcoming Valorant Champions 2023 World Championship. Meanwhile, Leviatan is sent home empty-handed.

Tournament journey of KRU Esports

It should be noted that KRU Esports came to the tournament not as favorites. Before the start of the LCQ, the team was ranked 6th among the best teams in Latin America, while their last opponents, Leviatan, were top-1. Furthermore, in the regular VCT Americas League 2023 season, the team didn't win a single match, finishing the season in the 10th and last place. Despite this, KRU Esports burst into the tournament with victories over two Brazilian teams, MIBRI 2-0 and FURIA Esports 2-1. Fans watching the tournament were amazed as the underdogs displayed high-level play. After the upper bracket semifinals, in which KRU Esports first beat Leviatan 2-0, the team proceeded to the final, where they closed out the American tops, Cloud9 2-1.
