Is EMEA really the best region in Valorant?

Recently, a Twitter user with the nickname CalCameron conducted his own investigation regarding the EMEA region in Valorant. He asserts that the region is inferior to the Americas and Pacific in all metrics, therefore it does not deserve an additional slot in major tournaments.

We remind you that this is just the subjective opinion of the author, which we decided to highlight for our readers. CalCameron's main gripe was that the EMEA region has only one strong team, Fnatic, while the entire region enjoys the privileges that these winners bring.

Fnatic are world champions in two major tournaments in a row, while EMEA only reaps the benefits (additional slots in international tournaments). No one doubts that the EMEA region has some of the best VALORANT talents, but how deep is this region?

As an example, he refers to VCT 2023: LOCK//IN São Paulo. In total, teams from the EMEA region played against other regions in 18 matches, of which they won 10. But out of these 10 victories, 7 were brought by Fnatic and NAVI, which indicates that other teams from the EMEA did not make a significant contribution to the value of the region. He also shows that out of 32 teams in the tournament, only 2 representatives from EMEA made it to the top 8, again Fnatic and NAVI, while there were 4 teams from the American region.

The next example is VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, which featured 4 teams from EMEA, thanks to Fnatic's victory at LOCK//IN São Paulo, while America and the Pacific region were represented by 3 teams. The author emphasizes that besides Fnatic, who later won the tournament, the other teams from the region only won 2 out of 8 matches, and those were against inexperienced opponents from the newly formed Chinese region. One victory was earned by FUT Esports in the group stage, and the next by Team Liquid in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Finally, Cal presents viewership statistics during regular seasons in each region. Despite all the popularity of the EMEA region, it falls behind the other two in viewership. On average, America had 205,618 viewers, the Pacific region 138,528 viewers, while EMEA had only 119,479 viewers.

The author states that the EMEA region undeservedly wins additional slots, while real competition suffers from the lack of intervention from Riot Games. He also calls for granting additional slots to the region with better metrics, not just one best team, referring to Fnatic.

We remind you once again that this is just the subjective opinion of CalCameron, so it's up to you whether to agree with it or not. We just told our readers about this interesting investigation.
