On July 7, the developers of Dune: Awakening released an update that accidentally turned part of the Deep Desert from a peaceful PvE zone into a PvP area. This led to massive losses of bases, vehicles, and resources. Now, Funcom promises compensation to all affected players.
After the update, several regions that were supposed to remain PvE zones were mistakenly marked as PvP territories. Because of this, players were able to attack bases that were previously in safe zones.
This mistake caused large-scale losses — many guilds reported complete destruction of their camps. Players began calling for servers to be rolled back to the state before the update.
The developers acknowledged their mistake and promised that in the future, changes to zone types will not happen suddenly.
All players who lost resources, vehicles, or structures due to this error will receive compensation through the “Claim Rewards” tab by the end of the week.
Funcom is currently working on creating tools to track losses caused by server crashes, connection interruptions, and other bugs to avoid similar problems in the future.
Even before this mistake, changes were made in Deep Desert: now only 50% of the region is a PvP zone (previously over 90%).
The PvP exit timer was increased from 5 to 30 seconds to reduce abuse caused by fights at zone boundaries.
Despite these updates, the zone error caused serious concern — players fear that similar bugs may happen again.
If you lost property due to this mistake, be sure to check the “Claim Rewards” tab compensation will be available until the end of the current week.
The developers promised that in upcoming patches, zone type changes will be clearly communicated, so players should carefully follow announcements and Coriolis storm cycles.
Until the zoning system becomes stable, it is recommended to avoid building bases in border or potentially unstable areas to reduce the risk of further losses.
