Active discussions have begun in Turkey regarding the possible ban of Counter-Strike 2 and Steam. The reason stems from accusations against the platform for promoting gambling due to the case system. This information was shared by the Turkish news portal TRCS Espor.
A representative of the portal called Keydrop, which sponsors many streamers in Turkey as well as the organization Eternal Fire, a gambling site. Additionally, he mentioned Counter-Strike 2 and loot box systems in other games. He claimed that these mechanics fall under the definition of gambling and that such projects should be banned.
Later, journalist Ibrahim Haskologlu, who released material on the gambling issue, refuted the rumors, stating that no organization in Turkey is currently considering banning Steam or Counter-Strike 2.
However, an investigation has begun regarding streamers who engage in gambling on projects similar to Keydrop. Esports team owners find themselves in a difficult position due to their financial ties with Keydrop.
Keydrop is a sponsor of Eternal Fire, which was based in Turkey until October 16, 2024. In October, the organization moved its headquarters to Hungary without specifying the reasons for this decision. This may be related to lower ping, the availability of cheaper bootcamps, and the ease of finding sponsors for an esports club in Hungary.
