The situation occurred during one of the first American Open qualification rounds. The nickname of the banned person is pawt, and he will no longer be able to perform on the professional stage, as a minimum, for a very long time. All teams lost to a banned player received a match rollback and victory.

In which match was the player banned?

The scandalous episode occurred during the map veto of the Strife vs. Fun Mix match. The teams met in the round of 16, which is the final part of the qualifiers if we are talking about European qualifications. However, in the case of America, 1/16 is the second round because only 35 teams registered for the qualification.

Therefore, Fun Mix, which included pawt, won only one match before the match with Strife. The ban occurred during the map veto, after which Strife's opponent became the goomba stomp team, which lost to Fun Mix in 1/32. The match ended quickly - Strife won 16-2.

Cheating is still a problem for open qualifications

If cheating in the American qualifiers was not a big problem, and it was quickly discovered, unfair play in the European qualifiers would remain a huge problem.

More than 500 teams are registered for each European qualification; therefore, a huge number of matches are played on them, which is simply impossible to track. As a result, cheaters may not count on passing further but spoil the games of a couple of good teams, after which the software will be turned off.
