12 teams at BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2024 utilized the Snap Tap feature

After finishing another tier 1 tournament, BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2024, a Reddit user took apart demos of the tournament's games. In which he counted the number of ticks with overlapping left and right inputs from each player to see how many players were using Snap Tap (or similar).

Since Snap Tap prevents simultaneous left and right input, players with zero (or very close to zero) number of ticks with overlapping inputs are more likely to be using Snap Tap.

About Snap Tap

Razer keyboards have released an update where when a player presses two opposing buttons (A and D), the last press will take precedence. This means that the character won't slide, but instead will instantly change direction without releasing the previous button.

Which immediately became popular in the all-player community and most players thought it was a great advantage. But according to Razer, before releasing this feature, they contacted tournament operators and they gave the go-ahead for it.

Using Snap Tap at BLAST

At the BLAST tournament, out of 16 teams, only 4 teams did not use it. In the others, at least one player had this keyboard. Details can be found below:

  1. NIP: isak, alex, REZ
  2. Virtus Pro: n0rb3r7
  3. Cloud 9: Ax1Le
  4. Heroic: sAw, TeSeS, sjuush
  5. Complexity: Grim, floppy
  6. NAVI: jL
  7. FaZe: rain, frozen
  8. G2: NiKo, m0NESY
  9. Liquid: jks, YEKINDAR, ultimate
  10. Falcons: Magisk, snappi, maden
  11. Astralis: br0, stavn, dev1ce
  12. BIG: rigon

Players not in italics did not have overlapping entry ticks in all games. Players in italics either had a few games with zero overlapping input ticks, or had all of their games with near-zero overlapping input ticks. The average number of overlapping ticks for players who do not use Snap Tap is usually around 1000 ticks per card.

A lag or other error may allow some small number of overlapping ticks to slip through, even if the player is using Snap Tap. Statistically, 25 out of 80 players on BLAST seem to have used Snap Tap.

Conclusion

With the new feature, players have some sort of priority in the game, making it a bit unequal. But that doesn't stop others from winning, for example Spirit had no one using the keyboard, but they took first place.
