How Faker was named the Best Esports Athlete of 2024

Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok added another accolade to his already illustrious career after he was named the Best Esports Athlete in the 2024 edition of The Gaming Awards. T1, the organization that Faker is part-owner of, also took home the title of best esports team of the year.

It was another year to remember for T1 as they hoisted their first world championship not too long ago, defeating LPL squad Bilibili Gaming in a thrilling best-of-five at the O2 Arena in London, England. Faker's immense display of leadership in the clutch moments helped claw his team back from the brink of defeat. This is one of the reasons T1 was able to end the year on a high and pick up multiple awards. Faker was also named PC Player of the Year at the Esports Awards this year.

As mentioned above, it's been a year to remember for Faker. On the rift, he was able to lift the first LoL Esports World Cup trophy for T1, winning an impressive $400,000 in prize money and also earning MVP for the tournament. Off the rift, he was given one of the highest honors you can get as a professional player.

Faker was the first League of Legends player inducted into the Hall of Legends, which is the hall of fame for traditional sports. Fakers' accomplishments both on and off the rift have been celebrated with a bundle that comes with two skins to commemorate the unkillable demon king. Firstly, Risen Legend LeBlanc, a champion Faker is synonymous with a 78.9% win rate over 50+ games.  And finally, a more controversial skin given the pricetag, Immortalized Legend Ahri, another champion that Faker destroyed the competition on throughout the years.
