The most famous content creator in the world, MrBeast, still plans to acquire a team in the professional League of Legends league (LCS) in the USA and even dreams of winning the world championship.
In an interview for the Clickbaited show on Dexerto, MrBeast admitted that he has long been passionate about the game. As a teenager, he dreamed of becoming a professional player and admired Lee Faker Sang-hyeok and other esports stars. Although he has little time to play now, his interest in the League of Legends scene has not faded.
“I want to own an LCS team, it’s just…I’ve got a lot going on at the moment [but] I’m going to buy one,” MrBeast confirmed.
Unlike other investors, MrBeast does not view buying a team as a business decision. He is willing to spend large sums on player salaries and strengthening the roster to contend for a win at Worlds.
“It’d be awesome if I made ‘f*** you money’ to buy an LCS team, pour tons of money into the salaries, import the best players, try to make a run for Worlds. That would be amazing.”
MrBeast aims to purchase a team by 2027, but is worried about the state of the North American scene. After the dissolution of LCS in 2024, the league was restructured, and its popularity declined.
“We just have to keep the esports scene popping. I don’t wanna see a decline in viewership, I don’t wanna finally get a team and we win Worlds, and everyone’s like, ‘No one cares, League’s dead.’ Keep this s**t going. One day, I’ll step in.”
The purchase of a team by MrBeast could become a true event for LCS. He is known for his ability to draw attention to projects, and his influence might bring the scene back into focus. While LCS is going through tough times, such actions could breathe new life into the community and raise interest in tournaments, supporting the development of esports on a global level.
