What to Expect from the Apple WWDC 2025 Presentation?

Apple is preparing to unveil one of the most significant transformations of its software in recent years. On June 9, the 36th annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) opens. The company will present updated platforms, a new naming scheme, AI-based features, and a unified design for all its devices — although not many new hardware announcements are expected.

Software in the Spotlight of the Apple WWDC 2025

This year's conference focuses on a deep redesign of all Apple operating systems: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. Inspired by the glassy aesthetic of visionOS — the OS running on Apple Vision Pro — Apple plans to introduce a more unified and immersive interface. Internally, this style is called “Liquid Glass” or “Solarum,” and users can expect semi-transparent panels, floating icons, pill-shaped navigation, and 3D elements across various devices.

At the heart of these changes is iOS 26, which symbolizes not only a visual evolution but also a new approach to naming. Instead of sequential numbering (e.g., iOS 19), Apple aligns OS names with the release year — hence iOS 26, macOS 26 (codenamed “Tahoe”), iPadOS 26, and so on. This aims to simplify version tracking and unify the entire ecosystem.

AI Quietly but Strategically Spreads in Apple

Even though artificial intelligence was the focus at WWDC 2024, this year Apple is more restrained. Practical improvements are expected: AI-based battery management, live translation for AirPods, and an updated Shortcuts app with AI elements. AI translation integration in Messages and smart suggestions in Health and Notes apps are also anticipated.

Additionally, Apple plans to open its large language models to third-party developers, encouraging deeper AI integration into iOS and macOS applications. The long-awaited Siri update, postponed from last year, might finally be unveiled — although expectations remain moderate.

macOS Tahoe, iPad Multitasking, and More

macOS 26 debuts under the name Tahoe, continuing the tradition of naming after California's geographical features. The update mirrors the new iOS 26 design and includes a centralized gaming app, deeper integration with AirPods, and expanded support for Apple's AI services. This is likely to be the last macOS version officially supporting Intel-based computers as the company fully transitions to its own Apple Silicon chips.

Meanwhile, iPadOS 26 will bring long-awaited multitasking features, bringing it closer to macOS capabilities. New features for Apple Pencil, including a calligraphy mode specifically designed for writing in Arabic, are also expected.

AirPods, homeOS, and Hints of Hardware Innovations

While WWDC is primarily focused on software, Apple might introduce new features for AirPods: head gesture controls, auto-stop music during sleep, and studio-quality microphones. Real-time live translation features and camera control via headphones are also mentioned.

An unexpected announcement could be homeOS — a newly registered trademark for a potential operating system for a future Apple smart home device. The novelty is likely to feature a touchscreen and Siri-powered automation. Although the hardware is not yet ready for release, the company might offer a first look at this platform.

As for Mac, an updated Mac Pro based on Apple Silicon is on the wishlist, but it is not expected to appear at today's event. Similarly, rumors of the M5 chip debut remain just rumors for now.

Looking Ahead: iPhone 17 and Beyond

Although iPhone 17 will be unveiled only in September, Apple might hint at its plans for future models. The base model is rumored to retain 8 GB of RAM and feature a 120 Hz fixed refresh rate display.

iPhone 17 Pro models will likely become thinner and reduce the size of Dynamic Island. In 2026, a significant leap is expected with the A20 chip featuring integrated RAM, promising higher performance and better energy efficiency.

A Week for Developers

WWDC remains primarily a developer event. Besides today's keynote, engineering sessions, virtual labs, and forums will be held throughout the week — all available online via the Apple Developer app, the company's official website, and YouTube channel. A select group of developers and media are attending the event live at the Apple Park campus.
