State of Play broadcast 2025 Recap: Everything Announced and Shown at the Presentation

On June 4th, the PlayStation State of Play 2025 broadcast took place, showcasing a range of new games as well as the return of some previously announced titles that had been in "limbo."

This presentation solidified the list of projects for PlayStation 5 and some other platforms for the second half of the year — and also those that video game fans can look forward to later. So let's delve into what was showcased at this year's State of Play.

Main Announcements of State of Play 2025

The presentation featured a plethora of games, each catering to its own target audience. However, it's worth noting that some announcements are more intriguing and significant than others, which may have a narrower target audience due to their niche appeal.

Silent Hill f

Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting games of the show was Silent Hill f — the first installment in the series set in Japan.

In the fresh trailer, viewers were treated to more captivating footage of the game, gameplay episodes featuring combat, and eerie scenes. Additionally, the release date was announced: Silent Hill f is set to launch on September 25th for PS5 — even earlier than many might have imagined.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater

Another undeniable highlight of this year's State of Play presentation was Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. We were shown a new dynamic trailer, which made it clear that the game would retain the spirit of the original, albeit in a revamped package. In addition to classic gameplay, the Snake vs Monkey minigame will return, and there was a hint at the revival of Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on August 28th.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles

Square Enix officially confirmed the return of Final Fantasy Tactics. The remaster is set to release on September 30th for PS4 and PS5. The edition includes both the original PS1 version of the game and an enhanced re-release with voice acting, an updated interface, and modern conveniences.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

The State of Play broadcast concluded with the announcement of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls — a dynamic 4v4 fighter from Arc System Works (developers of Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ) in partnership with PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games. The trailer featured Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Doom, and other Marvel Universe characters in a stylized anime brawler. The release is set for 2026 on PS5 and PC.

New Games, Former Announcements, and Returns

Pragmata

Capcom returned to the public eye with Pragmata — a sci-fi adventure first introduced in 2020, which then went silent. The new trailer showcased gameplay and the main characters Hugh and Diana, confirming the game will release in 2026. However, only time will tell if the game faces another delay.

Romeo Is a Dead Man

Grasshopper Manufacture presented the explosive action game Romeo Is a Dead Man — stylish, brutal, and highly exaggerated. The title and gameplay fully align with the studio's signature style. Judging by the gameplay, something intriguing awaits us. The game will release in 2026 on PS5.

Nioh 3

Team Ninja announced Nioh 3, the continuation of the well-known Action RPG, which will release in early 2026. A demo version is already available in the PlayStation Store. In Nioh 3, you control a young warrior aspiring to become a shogun, offering players two combat styles — samurai and ninja.

Lumines Arise

Puzzle enthusiasts should prepare for Lumines Arise — a rhythm-puzzle game with PS VR2 support, set to release in the fall. The presentation featured a trailer showcasing the gameplay.

007: First Light

Another highlight from State of Play was the reveal of the first trailer for the James Bond game titled 007: First Light. This will be a third-person stealth-action game with intriguing spy mechanics.

Other Games and Announcements at State of Play 2025

From the creators of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a new installment was announced — Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, a 2D side-scroller in the Metroidvania style, set to release in 2026.

Meanwhile, Digimon Story: Time Stranger returned with a new trailer showcasing the customization system, new characters, and turn-based battles. The game is slated for October 3rd.

In a series of quick release date announcements, several indie and mid-budget games were confirmed. The absurd walking simulator Baby Steps launches on PS5 on September 8th.

The intriguing visual platformer Hirogami with an origami theme starts on September 3rd.

The arcade classic Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots will be released on September 5th with Pac-Man as a bonus character for pre-orders.

Action fans were not disappointed either. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound — a new side-scrolling project — will be released on July 31st.

From the creators of Road 96, Tides of Tomorrow was shown — an asynchronous multiplayer adventure with significant choices, set to release on February 24th, 2026.

The sea RPG Sea of Remnants, which tells of pirate adventures in the open ocean, also received a release window in 2026, inviting players to explore dynamic seas and develop the pirate city of Orbitopia.

Astro Bot will receive five new levels Vicious Void this summer, new Special Bots, and an updated DualSense controller design.

Another PS5 exclusive — Sword of the Sea — is coming out on August 19th and will be available in the PlayStation Plus game catalog.

Sucker Punch also hinted at more details on Ghost of Yōtei, with a full gameplay reveal in July.

KONAMI also announced Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a remaster of the classic series games, allowing players to dive into nostalgia, with a release planned for the end of the year.

For stealth fans, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow will bring immersion into virtual reality on PS VR2 and will be released at the end of the year.

FBC Firebreak

Among all the showcases at the presentation, there was also room for FBC Firebreak, a spin-off shooter in the Control universe from Remedy.

PlayStation Service Updates

PlayStation Plus also received an update: classic versions of Deus Ex (PS2) will appear in the catalog on June 17th, Twisted Metal 3 and 4 on July 15th, and Resident Evil 2 and 3: Nemesis will join the list in the summer.

Sony also unveiled Project Defiant — its first proprietary wireless arcade fight stick with PS5 and PC support, low latency, and plans for a 2026 launch.

Despite the variety of announcements, many gamers were disappointed with the presentation, as most of the games were neither too interesting nor already known from other announcements, events, and showcases. So it's worth hoping that future presentations, not only from Sony but also video game presentations in general that we can expect soon, will be more pleasing.
