Split Fiction, the highly anticipated co-op game from Hazelight Studios (creators of the Game of the Year winner It Takes Two), is set to launch this week. Here's everything you need to know about its release and what makes this mandatory co-op adventure special.
Split Fiction releases globally on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11 AM EST across all platforms (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC). Here's when that is in your time zone:
Players who have preordered the digital version can preload the game now, allowing them to jump in immediately when it launches. To preload:
Note: Preloading is only available to the account holder who purchased the game. Those using the Friend's Pass feature will need to wait until the game is live.

The game is also Steam Deck Verified for portable play.
In Split Fiction, you and your co-op partner play as Mio and Zoe, two aspiring writers who visit a publishing company and end up transported into digital realms based on their writing. The game's unique premise has each writer specializing in different genres—Mio writes sci-fi while Zoe creates fantasy stories—resulting in players traversing between sci-fi and fantasy worlds.
Like It Takes Two, Split Fiction doesn't commit to a single playstyle, instead rapidly shifting between platforming, shooting, puzzle-solving, and stealth segments. One minute you're navigating a cyberpunk city with flying cars, the next you're rowing a boat through a mystical forest, and then suddenly you might find yourselves as hot dogs on a grill!
The game features the Friend's Pass functionality, which means only one player needs to own a copy to play cooperatively online. It also supports full cross-play across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
With exceptional early reviews (including a 4.5/5 star rating from critics who call it "a triumph" and "a must-play co-op game"), Split Fiction looks to follow in the successful footsteps of It Takes Two, which has sold over 20 million copies since its launch.
The adventure is expected to last approximately 12-15 hours, making it a substantial co-op experience that continues to demonstrate why 2025 is shaping up to be a strong year for cooperative gaming.
