Reliable insiders report that a new category of cosmetic items will be introduced in Fortnite — companions in the form of pets that will accompany players throughout matches. Unlike the "pet backblings" of previous seasons, these companions will be able to move independently alongside the player and occupy a separate slot in character customization.
This information was first reported by trusted Fortnite insiders, including @ShiinaBR and @andredotuasset on X (formerly Twitter), noting that data about the new feature was found in the game's latest update files under the code name "Mimosa". These companions will be a significant step forward compared to the decorative animals from Chapter 1 Season 6, which simply sat on the player's back.
If this innovation is confirmed, this feature will offer a much deeper and more noticeable experience of interacting with pets—with animations, emotions, and the ability to interact both in the item locker and directly in matches. Some sources even suggest that companions will be visible to all squad members and have certain social functionalities, although details remain unknown.
This leak emerged during a busy period for Fortnite, right after the launch of the biggest crossover with Star Wars and significant gameplay changes. Epic recently removed the Wall Kicks and Roll Landings movement abilities from all core Battle Royale modes, which were added just a few months ago.
Some players welcomed this decision, while others criticized it, especially due to its impact on the Zero Build mode. Epic Games stated they are listening to community feedback for future updates but have not announced any alternatives to these mechanics.
The new information has also sparked a fresh wave of discussions about pricing among the game's audience. Players are wondering whether Fortnite companions will become another expensive cosmetic item—similar to the recent branded sneakers in Fortnite, which faced criticism for being overpriced. Currently, there is no official information regarding pricing, and Epic Games has yet to confirm the existence of this type of cosmetic.
If all this information is accurate, companions might appear in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4, which is expected to be released on June 7, 2025.
