March Nintendo Direct 2025: All Major Announcements and New Releases for Original Nintendo Switch

During the 40-minute Nintendo Direct presentation on March 27, the company unveiled a slew of new announcements for the original Nintendo Switch. In addition to games, Nintendo revealed some intriguing details related to their gaming console ecosystem. A Nintendo Direct dedicated to Nintendo Switch 2 games is expected on April 2.

Main Game Announcements at Nintendo Direct for Nintendo Switch

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

The presentation's highlight was Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, showcasing new gameplay, Samus Aran's psychic abilities, and a hint at a new suit. However, the game still lacks a specific release date. Nintendo confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still planned for release in 2025.

Pokémon Legends Z-A

The next big adventure in the Pokémon world — Pokémon Legends Z-A — takes players to Lumiose City. Day and night significantly impact gameplay. Enter the ZA Royale tournament, battle in real-time, and unlock the potential of mega evolutions. The game is slated for release in late 2025.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

The life simulator Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, originally released for Nintendo 3DS, gets a second life with a remake and several updates for Nintendo Switch. In this game, you create so-called Mii characters and watch their lives unfold on an island. The game somewhat resembles the Animal Crossing series. So get ready for another dose of quirky stories and social surrealism. The game is set to release in 2026.

Rhythm Heaven Groove

The beloved rhythm game series returns with a new project called Rhythm Heaven Groove. The game features music by Tsunku and numerous absurd mini-games that must be played in time with the background music. However, the release is expected only in 2026, so fans of the genre and series will have to wait.

High on Life

The satirical first-person shooter High on Life, created by the authors of Rick and Morty, will also be available on Nintendo Switch. In this game, you play as a teenager who, along with talking weapons, fights an alien drug cartel that wants to use humans as certain illicit substances.

New Features and Capabilities from Nintendo

One of the most unexpected announcements was the Virtual Game Cards feature, set to appear at the end of April. It allows you to manage your game library on Switch, simulating physical cartridges — including virtual "ejecting" of games and limited sharing among Nintendo Account family group members.
