New Krakoa Map in Marvel Rivals Season 2: Design, Gameplay, and More

The creators of Marvel Rivals have unveiled the new map Hellfire Gala: Krakoa, set to release on April 11 with the game's second season, bringing balance changes, new mechanics, and gameplay updates. It is known that the new map will feature portals for mutants.

The Krakoa map in Marvel Rivals reimagines the domination mode with a multi-point control system, living landscapes, and a dual-narrative approach. Players will battle on the living island of Krakoa, filled with bioluminescent flora and exquisite statues of X-Men legends like Professor X and Magneto.

New Portals on the Krakoa Map

The main feature of the Krakoa map is the Krakoa portals, a new movement mechanic available exclusively to mutant heroes. These teleportation gates are directly inspired by the flower portals from the original Marvel lore. In the game, the portals have a cooldown system, visual and audio cues, and may require capturing a control point or "channeling" before activation.

Early leaks from the well-known dataminer XX0LEAK hinted at these mechanics, which were later confirmed in the official trailer for the second season. The portals offer dynamic tactical opportunities: from quick flanking attacks and escape routes to rapid team position changes.

About the Map's Storyline

The events on the map take place during the high-profile Hellfire Gala event. On one side, Emma Frost hosts a lavish celebration of mutant culture. On the other, Ultron disrupts the festivities, causing chaos with an army of robots. This duality is not just a narrative device but directly impacts gameplay, as the map features both peaceful and destroyed zones that alter the course of battle.

Krakoa is not just a beautiful backdrop but a comprehensive gameplay overhaul. The map joins the ranked pool, replacing older locations like Yggsgard: Royal Palace and Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya. Players will need to adapt to Krakoa's unique geometry and portal strategies, or risk losing their competitive edge.
