Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition now available

NetherRealm Studios has officially released Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition, bundling the whole MK1 content into one massive pack. It’s available digitally now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch, giving both newcomers and returning fighters a brutal deal packed with content.

Retailing for $69.99 on most platforms ($59.99 for Switch), the Definitive Edition includes the base game, the Khaos Reigns story expansion, two full Kombat Packs featuring fan favorites and crossover icons, and tons of cosmetic DLC like movie-inspired skins and exclusive costumes. For existing players, a Definitive Edition Upgrade is available for $59.99, offering a path to complete your collection, though the price has stirred some backlash given the steep cost.

Here’s everything included in Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition:

  • Mortal Kombat 1 base game
  • Khaos Reigns story expansion
  • Kombat Pack 1 Fighters: Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda Takahashi, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Homelander
  • Kombat Pack 1 Kameo Fighters: Tremor, Khameleon, Janet Cage, Mavado, Ferra
  • Kombat Pack 2 Fighters: Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, T-1000 Terminator
  • Kombat Pack 2 Kameo Fighter: Madam Bo
  • Shang Tsung as a playable character
  • Skins and costumes from Mortal Kombat (2021) and Mortal Kombat II (2025) movies
  • Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage (complete with likeness and voice)
  • Classic outfits including Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 skins and Tournament Liu Kang
  • Animality finishing moves
  • 1,250 Dragon Krystals (premium in-game currency)

What’s Next for MK1?

While the release of a Definitive Edition often signals the end of post-launch content, NetherRealm Studios hasn’t officially closed the book on MK1. In fact, series co-creator Ed Boon tweeted last fall that the team was fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come.

Still, fans are understandably concerned. With Mortal Kombat 11’s final DLC launching roughly two years after its release, this move could mark a similar turning point for MK1. As of now, no third Kombat Pack has been confirmed, though players are hopeful for more surprises, especially with iconic characters still missing from the current roster.

Whether the Definitive Edition is a send-off or just another chapter, one thing’s for certain: Mortal Kombat 1 has delivered an ambitious reboot filled with violent spectacle, inventive twists on classic lore, and one of the wildest rosters in fighting game history.
