Fortnite's Ballistic Mode Gets Major Update with Test Maps and New Gear

Epic Games invites players to help shape the future of the Ballistic mode in Fortnite with the new large-scale 'Test Grounds Update #1', launching on April 8. This update introduces test 'Shell' maps and new game content for the first time.

As part of the significant expansion of the fast-paced first-person mode Ballistic, Epic Games released an update that allows players to test maps still in development and provide feedback to improve future arenas.

The so-called "Shell" maps start with two new locations: Hammerfall — a castle-style arena with narrow passages and recognizable landmarks, and Storm Chase Cove — a vertical map that emphasizes constant movement.

The Ballistic mode, which debuted in December 2024, quickly became a player favorite due to its first-person gameplay and intense Counter-Strike-style shootouts. With the introduction of Shell maps, Epic aims to directly involve the community in the development process, encouraging feedback on what works well and what needs changes as Chapter Six, Season Two progresses.

The update also adds new weapons and tools to the players' arsenal. Now available is the Sovereign sniper rifle, light and affordable, offering high mobility, along with the Overdrive ability, which increases movement speed, reload, and weapon swap speed—perfect for dynamic gameplay and crucial moments.

With the increase in the number of maps throughout the season and active community involvement in development, the latest Ballistic update makes Fortnite a true platform for collaborative creation and innovation in game mechanics, modes, and other content.
