FromSoftware has officially announced that Gnoster, one of Elden Ring: Nightreign’s most polarizing boss encounters, will receive the Everdark Sovereign variant this week. The upgraded version of the boss will go live on Thursday, July 3 at 3:00 a.m. CEST as part of the ongoing Everdark expansion to Nightreign’s endgame content.

Now It’s Harder
Gnoster, widely remembered for its two-part design, a combination of a projectile-heavy moth and a fast, scorpion-like melee brute, is known for its high-speed, punishing attack patterns. Many players have found the encounter difficult to read, with frequent downtime and narrow damage windows, making the fight feel less interactive compared to other Nightreign bosses.
With this new Everdark version, Gnoster is expected to open with mechanics that previously appeared only in its second phase, and expand into a new third stage that remains under wraps. Based on precedent from earlier Everdark Sovereign fights, this will likely include new attack patterns, additional visual effects, and a substantial difficulty increase.

What to Expect from the Upgrade
The Everdark boss series began with Adel, whose transformation introduced highly aggressive moves and tighter windows for counterplay. Fulghor, the second Everdark Sovereign, was surprisingly manageable by comparison, despite his base form being one of Nightreign’s more challenging encounters. Now, with Gnoster joining their ranks, players are uncertain whether the difficulty will align closer to Adel’s unforgiving pace or Fulghor’s relatively modest upgrade.
Speculation is already circulating in the community, with some players expressing concern over the addition of even more lasers, or potentially a third creature joining the already overwhelming two-part combination. Regardless, the sentiment across much of the player base is consistent: Gnoster is already a demanding encounter and the Everdark version may push it to extremes.

Whether viewed as an exciting new challenge or a frustrating obstacle, Gnoster’s transformation into an Everdark Sovereign will be a major event in the Elden Ring: Nightreign landscape. As with previous Sovereign versions, players should prepare for increased aggression, a higher skill ceiling, and the potential for entirely new mechanics.
