Dune: Awakening, the survival MMO from Funcom, has officially launched in early access on PC. Players who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate editions gained access to the game on June 5, 2025. The full release is scheduled for June 10.

A Strong Start With Over 90,000 Players

Even before its full launch, the game has already become a hit. In the first few hours of early access, Dune: Awakening gained more than 93,000 players on Steam simultaneously, and the number of active players was constantly at 78,000.

However, within two days of the launch, the online traffic began to decline rapidly. As of now, there are only about 11,000 players in the game at the same time, which is a rather sharp decline after the initial hype.

This may indicate problems with technical difficulties, including server issues that affect the stability of the gameplay during the early access period.

What Each Edition Includes

Players can choose between three editions. The Standard Edition includes the core game, Deluxe Edition unlocks early access and includes a season pass for four planned DLCs, while the Ultimate Edition adds even more bonuses and cosmetic items. Preloading became available on June 4, allowing players to jump in immediately on early access day.

Gameplay and Setting

Set on the desert planet of Arrakis, Dune: Awakening takes place in an alternate version of the Dune universe — one where Paul Atreides was never born. Players explore the vast desert, survive harsh environments, gather resources, build bases, and fight other players or NPCs for control over valuable spice.

The game presents a colossal open desert world. It’s not just a map — it’s a living ecosystem where sandstorms, scorching heat, water scarcity, and colossal sandworms dictate the rules of survival. One careless step, and you’re no longer the hunter — you’re the prey.

From the very first moments, the player is forced to adapt: searching for water, taking shelter from storms, avoiding unwanted encounters. Here, every day is a challenge.

Console Versions

Currently, Dune: Awakening is only available on Windows PC. However, the developers are already working on versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Release dates for console editions have not yet been announced.
