Capcom has officially unveiled the new installment of Resident Evil: Requiem, which becomes the ninth main entry in the series, and announced its release date. The reveal took place at the Summer Game Fest 2025, and the new chapter promises a return to the series’ roots with a focus on psychological horror, a new protagonist, and familiar locations.
The trailer for Resident Evil Requiem showcased a destroyed Raccoon City — the city that was wiped out after the events of Resident Evil 3 — hinting that players will have to return to it. The trailer showed familiar locations such as the police station and a mansion.
The main protagonist is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent and daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. She is investigating a series of mysterious deaths, the most recent of which occurred at a hotel where her mother was killed eight years ago. The trailer shows Grace confronting terrifying events and her own past.
The game is being developed on an updated RE Engine, which delivers a high level of detail for characters and environments. Capcom promises a combination of psychological horror and dynamic action, along with new gameplay mechanics that will immerse players in a tense survival atmosphere.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released in early 2026, on February 27, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game will be available for preview at Gamescom 2025, where visitors will be able to try a demo version.
Resident Evil Requiem was one of the biggest announcements at Summer Game Fest 2025 and promises to be a significant addition to the series, blending classic elements with new approaches to gameplay and storytelling. The return to Raccoon City, the new heroine, and modern technology have set high expectations among fans.
