At the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8, 2025, Activision, along with Treyarch and Raven Software, officially unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the next chapter of the cult game franchise set in 2035. This is the first time in the history of the series when two parts of Black Ops are released simultaneously.
The story of Black Ops 7 continues the narrative threads from Black Ops 6 and partially from Black Ops 2. Players will once again step into the shoes of David Mason, who must confront a new enemy wielding advanced psychological manipulation technology. Fear and mind control are central themes, with the campaign’s visual style evoking the concept of a "shattered psyche" — reminiscent of the haunting atmosphere seen in Alan Wake.
The game will feature both a single-player and a co-op campaign set in the near future. In addition, players can expect the return of classic multiplayer and a fully-fledged Zombies mode that continues the Dark Aether storyline.
Black Ops 7 is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Battle.net). While an exact release date has yet to be confirmed, the game is scheduled for launch in 2025, most likely in the fall — continuing the franchise’s traditional release window. A full gameplay reveal and release date announcement are expected later this summer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 promises to be a bold leap forward for the subseries, blending dark psychological storytelling, futuristic weaponry, and the signature Black Ops style. Stay tuned for a full reveal later this summer — the release appears to be set for fall 2025.
