Riot Games is finally stepping deeper into the fighting game arena. After shaking up the FPS space with Valorant, their upcoming tag-team fighter, now officially titled 2XKO (formerly Project L) is entering a new stage of testing. A closed beta is coming this September 9, 2025, and registration is live.
2XKO has been in development for years, with Riot promising a fighter that’s both mechanically deep and beginner-friendly. The new closed beta aims to push the game’s technical infrastructure, including rollback netcode stress tests and live backend maintenance.

Unlike earlier playtests, this beta is meant to simulate the kind of pressure the game will face at launch, so don’t expect just a casual demo. This is Riot making sure the engine runs hot and smooth. However, it’s worth noting: this round is PC-only. Console players will have to sit this one out, unless you were part of previous testing.
How to Sign Up for the 2XKO Closed Beta
- Head to the official 2XKO website.
- Look for the Closed Beta tab on the homepage.
- Sign in to your Riot Games account (or create one).
- Confirm your details and you’re in the queue.
Riot hasn’t given an exact date for code distribution, invites will be sent out gradually, so keep checking your inbox and spam folder. If you were already part of the earlier alpha test (on PC or console), you’re automatically registered for this beta.

Vi Joins the Roster
Familiar faces return, but there’s a big new addition: Vi the punch-first, ask-later enforcer from League of Legends and Arcane is officially joining the 2XKO roster.
The full beta roster so far includes:
- Ekko
- Ahri
- Yasuo
- Braum
- Atriox
- Illaoi
- Jinx
- Vi (new)
This brings even more variety to the game’s evolving tag-based mechanics. If Riot nails the synergy and flow between characters, 2XKO could seriously shake up the fighting game scene.

Your Progress Might Carry Over
One more incentive: Riot has confirmed that beta progression may carry over to consoles if a future test includes them and even potentially to the full launch. So your time spent mastering combos now might pay off later.
2XKO is a serious contender aiming to bridge the gap between FGC loyalists and curious newcomers. With its slick visuals, iconic champions, and Riot’s pedigree behind it, this closed beta might be your first glimpse into something big.
