In the depths of locations and dungeons in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, numerous secrets and adversaries await, each more intriguing than the last. The most dangerous among these enemies are the bosses, eagerly awaiting your challenge, and along with victory, the rewards that will make you stronger.
One of these formidable and grotesque bosses is Metyr, Mother of Fingers. If you’ve encountered the eerie, hand-like enemies in Caria Manor, Metyr’s appearance won’t be entirely new to you, though still impressive.
If you need help defeating Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, this guide is here to assist you.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Location
Finding Metyr, Mother of Fingers, is not an easy task. She resides under the ominous Manus Metyr Cathedral, located in the northwestern part of the Realm of Shadow. To find this eerie cathedral, head from the Moorth Ruins to Bonny Village, and then follow the winding road northeast. However, the entrance to Metyr's lair will be inaccessible until you progress far enough in the questline with Count Ymir.
To start Ymir’s quest, you must first meet him at the Manus Metyr Cathedral. Then, you’ll have to traverse through a series of ruins, the Cerulean Coast, and the Shadow Keep. Ymir will provide maps to help you. After completing the necessary tasks, return to Ymir, talk to him, and move to the Site of Grace in the cathedral to update the area.
Once you return, you’ll find that Ymir is gone. Interact with the empty throne to reveal a hidden ladder. Descend it and ring the bell at the end to be transported to the Finger Ruins of Miyr, where Metyr’s boss arena is located.
Be cautious, as before facing Metyr, you’ll need to defeat an elite enemy known as Sword Hand of Night Anna, who will attack you after descending the ladder. It’s wise to visit a Site of Grace to replenish your health and resources before engaging Metyr.

Metyr, Mother of Fingers Weakness
Despite Metyr, Mother of Fingers, appearing as a formidable opponent, she has her weaknesses. One of her main vulnerabilities is to bleeding. If you prefer a build based on katanas or other gear capable of causing bleeding, this fight will be manageable.
Frostbite is another weakness of the boss. Regardless of the types of attacks you use, if they have this effect, it will be advantageous in the fight against Metyr. And, of course, standard physical damage is also an optimal choice if you prefer a classic brute force build.

Preparation for the Battle with Metyr, Mother of Fingers
Before engaging the boss, you must prepare and equip yourself to protect against her devastating magical attacks. It is recommended to wear armor with high magical defense. The Lusat armor set, obtained through Sellen's questline, is quite suitable as it provides good protection against magical damage. For better defense, you can find the Dane set near Bonny Village in the Realm of Shadow.
Since one of Metyr, Mother of Fingers’ weaknesses is bleeding, the Rivers of Blood katana, which can be obtained from Bloody Finger Okina, and the Bloodhound’s Fang greatsword, obtained from Bloodhound Knight Darriwi, are excellent options for the upcoming battle. Eleonora’s Poleblade, acquired from Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger during Yura's questline, is another good choice.
You can also use both weapons simultaneously, as many of Metyr's attacks are slow. Alternatively, you can use spells and incantations that inflict bleeding, such as Briars of Punishment from Mountaintops of the Giants, Bloodflame Blade from Liurnia, or Swarm of Flies from Mohgwyn Palace.
If you prefer ranged combat, arrows that cause bleeding are suitable, and you can use Blood Grease to apply the bleeding effect to weapons that don’t have it.

One of the best new spells in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is Impenetrable Thorns, a bleeding spell found on a corpse in the Shadow Keep’s Storehouse. This spell is particularly effective against Metyr. Don’t forget about Spirit Ashes. The Mimic Tear, found in the Eternal City of Nokron, and the Dung Eater Puppet, purchasable from Seluvis, can also be useful.
As for talismans, the Spelldrake Talisman +3 will provide your character with excellent magical damage protection, while the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +2, found in Crumbling Farum Azula, significantly reduces incoming physical damage. If you’re using a bleeding strategy, the Lord of Blood’s Exultation, found in the Leyndell Catacombs, will increase your attack power when Metyr is bleeding.
Battle with Metyr, Mother of Fingers: Phase 1
As soon as you enter the arena, Metyr Mother of Fingerswill initially perform several head and jump attacks, after which she will start charging a magical laser from her head. You have a split second to take a favorable position before she fires the laser, but if the boss targets a different spot, it simplifies your situation.
Use this moment to get closer to Metyr and land a few hits. However, be prepared as she will then aim the laser at you. The laser’s hitbox is larger than it seems, so roll in the right direction to avoid damage.
Most Metyr, Mother of Fingers attacks in the first phase are quite simple. She often uses basic head and body strikes that are easy to dodge. Roll towards her to take advantage of the moment and land a few hits. However, her hand attacks require more caution. She has three variations: a single hand strike, a double hand strike with quick follow-up hits, and a claw attack. Each can be avoided by rolling towards her or sideways at the right moment.
Another attack involves gathering magical energy and slamming her head into the ground, creating damage indicators. Move to the safe zones between these indicators to avoid subsequent explosions. Metyr can also use finger appendages on her body to strike or push you. Her slap can be deadly, so react promptly to her movements to roll to a safe area.

Battle with Metyr, Mother of Fingers: Phase 2
Once Metyr’s health drops to 50%, she transitions to the second phase. She starts levitating, creating a destructive magical field around herself that deals damage. In the next attack, she stands on her legs, raises her hands, and creates magical bubbles that explode after a few seconds. Run forward past the bubbles towards her to avoid them and land hits while they burst.
Metyr’s magical laser now fires three times faster, so be prepared to dodge left or right multiple times. Creeping enemies can also emerge from her chest, which you should quickly dispatch.
If Metyr Mother of Fingerswill jumps into the air and starts spinning, she will lunge at you, dealing significant damage. Move to the side as soon as you see her preparing for this move. If necessary, roll through her before she hits you. A large shield can block this attack but still take some damage.
Metyr’s last new attack in the second phase is levitation with a destructive magical field and directing a colossal sphere with her tail. This sphere fires a massive laser that rotates around the arena and which Metyr Mother of Fingerswill can control. Move away from the laser and roll through it as it passes you. The damage from this laser can be severe, so heal immediately if hit.

Tips for the Battle with Metyr, Mother of Fingers
Melee players will find it easier to predict and dodge Metyr’s head and body attacks. Her ground attack involves lifting her head until it glows and then slamming it into the ground, followed by an explosion. The attack indicators show seven cone-shaped lines from her head, and standing between these lines keeps you safe. When she uses her laser beam attack, her head briefly glows before firing. Dodge forward to get close to her and strike while you can.
Metyr’s hand attacks are straightforward: she sweeps her hands alternately in front of her, spreading them out to the sides. Dodge back when she does this. For a single hand strike, roll to the side before she hits.
Body attacks include a ground slam, jump, leap attack, and summoning creatures. The ground slam involves lifting her body and slamming it into the ground. Dodge sideways to avoid it. The jump opens her chest to release smaller fingers and jump over you.
Metyr’s tail attacks are particularly dangerous. The tail sphere includes several attacks, including a massive laser, explosive spheres, and a magical field collision. Avoid these to prevent severe damage.

Conclusion
Defeating Metyr, Mother of Fingers, is a challenging but rewarding trial. Despite her powerful and dangerous attacks, they are easy to dodge. With good equipment and knowing how to avoid each type of attack, defeating her won’t be a problem. Upon defeating her, you will receive 420,000 Runes and the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers.
