In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, there are many interesting mechanics, especially related to criminal activities, one of which is pickpocketing. In the first hours of the game, you may think this is quite difficult and dangerous. However, once you understand how theft works in KCD2, try it yourself, and practice, it will become your everyday activity in the game.

How to Pickpocket in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Select a Victim
To attempt to pickpocket an NPC, you need to approach their waist, target their pockets or purses until the "Pickpocket" button appears. This can be done from both the front and the back, but it's better to approach from behind as it reduces the risk of being caught. Generally, the most valuable items are kept in the front pocket, which can also be accessed from the back, but this requires more time and skill.

It's important for the victim and surrounding characters not to notice you. Therefore, before pickpocketing, ensure that there are no other NPCs around, and your victim does not notice you, or better yet, is asleep or busy with something (like eating, constantly standing, working with hands on the spot).
Prepare for Theft
When you target the victim's purse, hold the corresponding button to start the theft. A timer will appear on the screen, showing how many seconds you have to complete the theft. The color of the timer's background gradually turns red, indicating that the victim begins to suspect something. If you release the button before the timer turns completely red, a pickpocketing mini-game will begin, and you will have accumulated time for your thieving actions.

Mini-game "Pickpocketing"
In the mini-game, a circular interface representing the NPC's inventory appears before you. The outer ring of this circle is a timer that decreases. You need to move the cursor over different cells, selecting an item for theft or revealing hidden items marked with question marks.
If you select an item, it will consume some of your time (indicated in red). To successfully complete the theft, you need to return to the starting slot, marked by a door icon at the top of the circle. If you fail to exit in time or attempt to steal too many items, the NPC will notice you and expose you.

How to Improve Pickpocketing Skills
To become a better thief, you need to level up the "Thievery" skill. As you level up, you will gain perks that will help with thefts:
Perk | Description |
Nimble Fingers | Unlocks at level 6: allows you to accumulate time on the timer 10% faster |
Rapid Flight | Unlocks at level 8: if you fail to exit the mini-game's interface in time, the victim will not notice the theft attempt. However, this ability has a 3-minute cooldown |
Inconspicuous | Unlocks at level 18: allows stealing from the NPC's front pocket without immediate exposure |
Additionally, the right clothing choice can help you remain unnoticed. Choose dark and light clothing, which reduces noise and visibility, decreasing the likelihood of exposure.

Tips for Successful Pickpocketing
To learn to steal effectively, start by practicing on isolated NPCs. The best targets will be:
- Intoxicated Characters – drunk NPCs react slower.
- Sleeping NPCs – almost do not notice theft attempts.
- Stationary NPCs – characters engaged in some activity and standing still are easier to approach and steal from without extra risk.
Initially, it's better to choose the back pocket since the risk of exposure is lower there. As skills improve, you can try stealing from the front pocket, where there is usually more money and valuables, though it is more difficult and dangerous.
Remember that patience and practice are the main tools of a true thief. The more you hone your pickpocketing and stealth skills, the easier it will be to empty NPC pockets in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

NPC Reaction to Theft in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Remember that your theft attempts won't go unnoticed if you act carelessly. Characters will raise an alarm and demand you face punishment for the crime. Thus, you can:
1) Negotiate with the Character (No Money), turning everything into a joke. This will only work if your level of eloquence is high.
2) Pay for Silence. You can buy your victim's silence by paying some money.
3) Hit and Run. Alternatively, knock out the character who raises the alarm and flee the crime scene before law enforcers or other armed NPCs arrive. If you're not caught in the act and not remembered, it will be easier to pretend nothing happened later.
4) Face the Punishment. If you want to be obedient and submissive, then surrender to the guards and stand in the bonds of shame or receive a brand for your actions. However, in the eyes of others, you will have less reputation and won't be pleasant to talk to for a while.
