For those who enjoy more challenging trials in Monster Train 2, there's a great opportunity to prove yourself in special Dimensional Portals. However, accessing it isn't straightforward, as it's initially unavailable. So, if you're looking to find out how to unlock Dimensional Portals in Monster Train 2, this guide will be helpful!
A Dimensional Portal is a game feature that significantly increases the difficulty in Monster Train 2. Once unlocked, it provides access to a special mode called Dimensional Challenges, which differ from regular runs. The player is given a random starting deck and must play under the influence of three constantly active mutators. The goal of completing Dimensional Portals is simple: survive and win, as well as earn rewards.
Before you can enter a Dimensional Portal, you need to unlock it by fulfilling one condition — unlocking two Pyre Hearts. These are passive bonuses chosen before a run, each with its own unlocking condition as well. In Monster Train 2, there are 13 Pyre Hearts in total, but only two are needed to unlock the Dimensional Portal. Some conditions require multiple attempts and time, but there are three that can be unlocked quite quickly if you know how.
Lifemother’s Pyre
This is usually the first Pyre Heart players unlock because it doesn't require complex strategy. Just let your Pyre take a total of 475 damage over several runs.
You don't even have to win. In fact, a few intentionally lost quick runs will help you reach the goal. Once you hit the condition limit, this Pyre Heart will unlock.
Heart of the Pact
This Pyre requires more effort. Players need to win nine battles with Trials activated. Trials are additional difficulty modifiers that can be enabled before each battle to earn more coins.
They can add enemies or enhance their stats, but the first battles with Trials are still easy to pass, especially if playing on Covenant 0. If it's hard to win nine battles in one run — don't worry: the game counts victories overall, so you can achieve the goal gradually.
Wyngh’s Spirit
The third "easy" Pyre unlocks after you move your units 275 times. It sounds like a lot, but movement happens quite often — especially if you're using certain clans or spells like Advance.
Everything counts: voluntary moves, spell actions, artifact effects. If you want to unlock the Pyre faster — build a deck focused on unit movement and don't hesitate to throw a few runs for this purpose.
After unlocking any two of the aforementioned Pyre Hearts, complete the current run — and a new cutscene will appear. After this, the Dimensional Portal will be available on the main screen. Inside, you'll find a branching challenge tree, each more difficult than the last.
There are 21 challenges awaiting you in the Dimensional Portal. Initially, only one challenge is available, and each subsequent one will unlock after completing the previous and meeting the necessary conditions.
The first available challenge is called Weapons Make the Warrior, and like all subsequent ones, it has three constant mutators. For example:
Each challenge has its own combination of mutators, which remains constant. But the starting deck will be different each time. This means you can replay the challenge with new cards.
By completing a certain number of Dimensional Challenges, you'll receive rewards, of which there are three:
Reward | How to Obtain | Description |
Malicka's Shifting Pyre | Win one Dimensional Challenge | New Pyre for the train |
Rock 'N Roll Heaven | Win ten Dimensional Challenges | Cosmetic element for your train |
Pyre Crystal Mastery Frame | Win all (21) Dimensional Challenges | Frame for customizing your cards |
Winning one Dimensional Challenge grants Malicka’s Shifting Pyre. This Pyre starts with 35 attack and 65 health, and each unit you recruit during the run is automatically upgraded. Although it's weaker than other Pyres in terms of stats, the advantage of upgraded units from the start more than compensates for this drawback.
Winning ten challenges unlocks Rock 'N Roll Heaven — a cosmetic upgrade for your train. And if you complete all 21 challenges — you'll receive the Pyre Crystal Mastery Frame, a new frame for customizing cards.
So, essentially, only the first reward is truly useful and practical. The other two are purely cosmetic. However, if you enjoy achieving maximum progress in games, you'll be pleased to earn these accolades as well.
