Fans of the Monster Train 2 sequel will be delighted to know that players can unlock the old clans from the original game. However, it may not be immediately clear how to do this, as several conditions need to be met to achieve this goal. Unlock 6 Pyre Hearts for the first old clan in Monster Train 2

To gain access to the original old clans, you must first acquire six Pyre Hearts. These are passive modifiers that affect the strength and properties of your Pyre.

To unlock the first old clan — Hellhorned — in Monster Train 2, you need to collect at least six out of thirteen Pyre Hearts. Each has its own unlocking conditions.

For some, you need to win a battle in trials, for others, complete a Dimensional Challenge or perform certain actions during a run. During the game, you can see what exactly needs to be done to meet the condition.

• Start a run by clicking “Depart” and choose the type of run.
• On the left side of the screen, under the allied clan selection, click on the Pyre Heart icon.
• Hover over any locked heart — the game will show what remains to be done.

To unlock these hearts, you don’t necessarily have to win the run — just fulfill the corresponding condition during the game. If you want to speed up the process, lower the Covenant rank and focus on the tasks for Pyre Hearts.

Once you unlock the sixth Pyre Heart, the Hellhorned clan will become available automatically. This will be your first of the five classic clans.

Monster Train 2 — How to unlock remaining original clans

After obtaining the Hellhorned clan, it’s time to move on to the next step — unlocking the other four clans. Each of them has a separate condition. Again: you don’t need to win the run — just meet the condition during the game.

How to unlock the Awoken clan in Monster Train 2

• To access the Awoken clan, you need to heal a total of 300 health. The easiest way is by playing as Luan Coven, who has powerful healing cards. Combining with Wyngh's Spirit — Pyre Heart, which enhances healing, makes the task much easier.

How to unlock the Stygian Guard clan in Monster Train 2

• To unlock the Stygian Guard clan, you need to cast five spells in one turn five times in a game. This is quite feasible with Luna Coven. Their cards like Moon Ritual and Witchweave are cheap and allow for easy spell creation, so the goal is achieved without difficulty.

How to unlock the Umbra clan in Monster Train 2

• To unlock Umbra, you need to increase the room capacity twenty times. The simplest way is to choose the Heaven’s Light upgrade after each boss victory. Bogwurm’s Growth — Pyre Heart, which itself aids in room expansion, will also help.

How to unlock the Melting Remnant clan in Monster Train 2

• To unlock Melting Remnant, you need to revive or reform 50 units. Choose Lazarus League — their mechanics are entirely built on returning units to battle. There are plenty of opportunities for this right during fights.

Note: One of the old clans — Wurmkin — is currently unavailable in Monster Train 2. It might be added later in future content updates.

How to check unlocking progress

To find out how close you are to unlocking each of the old clans, go to the clan selection screen in Monster Train 2 before starting a new run. Hover over any locked clan in the Primary or Allied Clan field — the game will show your current progress.
