Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming sci-fi PvP extraction shooter, is planned for release on September 23, 2025. As the release date nears, they have just announced that the game will have a closed alpha test, running from April 23rd to May 4th (10 A.M. PDT). Here is how you can sign up for the chance to join the Marathon Closed Alpha Test.
Closed Alpha Test Requirement
There will only be a small percentage of applicants that are allowed access, as there is limited availability. On top of that, there are certain requirements that they have provided in the FAQ page:
- Be located in North America
- Be 18 years old or older
- Have access to and a valid account on a supported platform (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and Steam)
- Have a valid Bungie.net account in good standing

Two of the FAQ listed on their website provided more explanation about the North America requirement.
- Q1 : Does the Alpha work outside North America?
While the Marathon Closed Alpha Test does not have a region lock on Steam and Xbox, we have limited server capacity outside North America, so your network experience while playing the game may be less than optimal. The Alpha is region locked to North and South America on PlayStation 5.answer to Q1
- Q2 : Bungie gave me an invite code, but I live outside North America. Do I have to say on the survey that I live in North America to play in the Alpha?
No. Please answer the questions honestly. If you have an invite code, you will not be excluded from the Alpha based on your geographic region.answer to Q2
How To Sign Up
- First and foremost, you will need to join Marathon’s official Discord server. In the alpha_access channel, type in /alpha to get the sign up link.

- Choose the platform that you will use to play the game on.
- After confirming your verified email, you then need to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). This prevents you from streaming/sharing any content from the closed alpha test.
- They will then ask you to take a 5-minute survey. This is the last step to your registration.
Invitation codes will be sent at the start of the Marathon Closed Alpha, and throughout the alpha’s runtime. Applicants are reminded to whitelist an email address in their mailbox ([email protected]) to not miss the invite.
However, if you find yourself missing out on this closed alpha test, don’t lose hope. Bungie has expressed that they plan to provide more playtesting opportunities in the window before the game’s release.
