How To Get Your Horse Pebbles Back in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Losing your horse early in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was an unpleasant experience, especially considering that traveling on foot in a vast open world is long and dangerous. Fortunately, Henry's loyal horse, Pebbles, isn’t gone forever. You can reunite with her early in the game, and you won’t even have to spend your own money if you play your cards right.

Where to Find Pebbles

After the dramatic events at the start of the game, Henry finds himself without weapons, armor, a dog, and most importantly, his horse. However, Pebbles is alive and can be found at the stables in the village of Semine.

Semine is located southwest of Troskovice and south of Zheleyo. Once there, head to the stables on the eastern outskirts of the village near the castle. Among other horses, you will find Pebbles – she is easily recognizable by her gray coat and black mane. When you approach her, Henry will realize it's his lost companion.

How to Get Pebbles for Free

Though Pebbles is located in Semine, she technically belongs to the groom Balatei, the stable owner. To get her back, you'll need to negotiate with him. Initially, he will offer to sell Pebbles to you for 160 groschen, but if you successfully pass a persuasion check with the right dialogues, you can get her for free.

To increase your odds of success:

  • Ensure Henry is clean and wears neat clothing – appearance affects persuasion.
  • If you’ve already found your dog, activate the "Charming Companion" skill in the Hound category. It adds +3 to charisma when the dog is nearby.
  • Choose the "Be reasonable" option in the dialogue – if the check is successful, Balatei will agree to give Pebbles for free.

If the check fails, Balatei won't change his decision, and you'll have to pay 160 groschen.

Alternative Way to Get Pebbles for Free

If you're not keen on paying for your own horse, there’s another way – ensuring Balatei himself ends up without money.

First, procure some lockpicks. These can be bought from the blacksmith in Taho or you can get at least one for free from Bara, who will call you to her after you’re released into the open world.

Wait for late night when Balatei will be asleep in his house near the stables.

Approach the front door and pick the lock. If you're new to lockpicking, prepare several lockpicks, as some might break.

Inside, carefully search Balatei while he sleeps. If you’re inexperienced, spend no more than 10 seconds on pickpocketing to avoid failure.

Steal all his money – he usually has over 400 groschen.

The next morning, return to the stables and "buy" Pebbles with Balatei's own money, effectively getting her for "free."

Be cautious during the theft – if you're caught, serious trouble can arise. It’s advisable to save the game before attempting.

Why Keep Pebbles

Though better horses can be found later in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Pebbles remains an excellent choice, especially for players who remember her from the first game. Despite NPCs mocking her as a "cheap old nag," she has her advantages.

  • In time, Henry can unlock the "Old Reliable Pebbles" skill in the horsemanship branch. This significantly improves her stats, making her competitive even among the top horses in the game.

  • Unlike stolen horses, Pebbles always responds to a whistle, ensuring you have reliable transportation.

  • She has a saddle, allowing increased inventory, which is especially useful for storing loot.

Is it Worth Replacing Pebbles?

Though Pebbles is Henry's beloved horse, she isn’t the fastest or strongest among the available horses. If you’re willing to invest in a new steed, better options can be found later with horse traders. However, selling or replacing Pebbles may feel like betraying an old friend. Thanks to the Old Reliable Pebbles skill, she becomes one of the best horses in the game, so it might be worth keeping her until the end of your journey.
