Closer to the middle and end of the game Monster Hunter Wilds, you will need significantly stronger gear to face challenges and enemies. To do this, you'll need to craft higher-level armor, which includes a resource called Hunter Symbol.
These items are a kind of proof of a hunter's skill and can only be obtained while hunting Tempered Monsters. In this guide, we will explain how to get Hunter Symbols I, II, and III in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Hunter Symbols are special crafting materials required for creating endgame weapons and armor. They are only awarded as rewards for quests that require defeating Tempered Monsters – enhanced versions of regular monsters with increased health, damage, and resistance characteristics.
Unlike standard materials, Hunter Symbols cannot be obtained by carving monster parts or breaking them – they are exclusively awarded after completing a quest.
Each Hunter Symbol corresponds to a certain difficulty level of Tempered Monsters:
If you want to create the strongest gear in the game, be prepared to spend a lot of time farming these symbols.
Before you can farm Hunter Symbols, you need to complete certain stages of the game:
1. Complete the first three chapters of the main story.
2. Reach Hunter Rank (HR) 20.
3. Complete the quest “Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns”.
4. After this, quests for Tempered Monsters will start to appear.
5. Find or save quests for Tempered Monsters through Environment Overview.
Once these monsters start appearing in various biomes, you can track them through the Environment Overview tab on the map. Some will be available in Optional Quests, while others will be in Field Survey Quests, requiring attention to monster spawn conditions.
Hunter Symbol I is the easiest to get, as it drops from 5-star Tempered Monsters. Here is a list of monsters to hunt:
Monster Names |
Tempered Quematrice |
Tempered Lala Barina |
Tempered Balahara |
Tempered Gypceros |
Tempered Congalala |
Tempered Hirabami |
Tempered Rathian |
Tempered Chatacabra |
Tempered Yian Kut-Ku |
Tempered Nerscylla |
Tempered Rompopolo |
These monsters are often found in various biomes, making Hunter Symbol I the easiest to farm. However, don't expect to get multiple symbols from one quest – this is only possible with random bonus rewards.
When your Hunter Rank reaches level 31, 6-star Tempered Monster Hunts will unlock, from which you will get Hunter Symbol II. These monsters are stronger than 5-star ones and require better gear and strategy.
Here's a list of Tempered Monsters that give Hunter Symbol II:
Monster Names |
Tempered Doshaguma |
Tempered Guardian Doshaguma |
Tempered Rathalos |
Tempered Guardian Rathalos |
Tempered Gravios |
Tempered Jin Dahaad |
Tempered Guardian Fulgur Anjanath |
Tempered Blangonga |
Tempered Xu Wu |
Tempered Ajarakan |
Tempered Guardian Ebony Odogaron |
At this stage, Field Survey Quests are the best way to farm. Use Environment Overview to find active hunts and save investigations if you need to return to hunting later.
The most valuable and challenging to get is Hunter Symbol III, which drops only from 7-star and 8-star Tempered Monsters, some of the toughest enemies in the game. They are necessary for crafting the final versions of weapons and the strongest armor, which will significantly ease your progress towards the end of the game.
To start obtaining third-level symbols, you need to have a Hunter Rank of 41 and complete the main quest called What Lies Ahead.
To get Hunter Symbol III, hunt these monsters:
Monster Names |
Tempered Uth Duna |
Tempered Rey Dau |
Tempered Nu Udra |
Tempered Gore Magala |
Tempered Arkveld |
Tempered Jin Dahaad |
These monsters are not always available, so check the Environment Overview to find out the time and biomes of their spawn. If you find one but are not ready to fight, save this quest investigation for the future.
Since Hunter Symbols can only be gained in battles with Tempered Monsters, use these tips to increase farming efficiency:
