Creating powerful weapons and armor in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 often requires specific materials, and one of the most important is deer hide. Some of the best gear can be found or bought, but crafting allows you to customize your arsenal without significant expense. However, deer hide is not something you can simply pick up off the ground like herbs or flowers. It must be obtained through hunting, trading, or less traditional methods.
The easiest way to get deer hide is to buy it, if you know where to look. Saddlers and cobblers often have it in their stock as they use it in their products. However, not all of them sell this material, so you'll need to find the right traders.
One of the best places to purchase deer hide is Matthew's saddler shop at Trosky castle. Although marked as a cobbler on the map, he is actually a saddler and sells deer hide for about 14 groschen. With bargaining, you can reduce the price to 10 groschen. Another reliable seller is the cobbler in the town of Kuttenberg, who also sells deer hide at a similar price.
If you are looking for alternative sources, you can turn to general goods merchants in small settlements, who sometimes have deer hide in limited quantities. It is also worth visiting armorers and blacksmiths at Trosky castle, as they often have this material.
Additionally, the hunter in Jeleyevo also sells deer hide, although his son, who organizes an archery tournament, actually handles the trading. Note that some merchants restock their goods only once every few game days.
If you prefer to gather resources yourself, it's worth heading into the woods. Deer typically inhabit wooded areas, and their locations are marked with deer icons on the world map.
One of the best hunting grounds is located in the forests between Jeleyevo and Troskovice in the Trosky region. Another great spot is west of Devil's Lair in the Kuttenberg region. To obtain deer hide, perform the following steps:
IMPORTANT! Hunting in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is considered poaching, so be cautious. If guards or other characters see you, you may be fined or even arrested. To avoid trouble, it's better to hunt at night or in places where no one can see you.
Deer hide is sometimes found among the spoils of poacher and bandit camps. If you are already clearing out such camps for other resources, be sure to check their supplies. Additionally, tanners may sell deer hide, although the one in Jeleyevo is known for being buggy and does not always offer trade. If you lack scruples, you can rob him or break into his house, where he keeps various hides. However, be careful—he has a guard dog that can raise the alarm.
Once you have gathered enough deer hide, it can be used at the forge to create weapons and armor. Many high-level recipes require processed leather, which is obtained through tanning.
