How to Get All Gems in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

One of the rarest resources in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is gems, which are essential for upgrading your gear at higher levels. So, if you're at the stage where you desperately need gems, or you're simply curious about how to find them and what they're used for, we'll cover it in our article.

All Gems in Runescape Dragonwilds and Their Uses

Currently, there are only four types of gems in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, namely:

Gem
Ore
Location
Sapphire
Gold
Bloodblight Swamp
Red Topaz
Silver
Bloodblight Swamp
Jade
Iron
Stormtouched Highlands
Opal
Tin and Copper
Fractured Plains

All of them are necessary for upgrading your gear through smithing. Early in the game, it's nice to get gems, but it doesn't make much sense since they are more needed at a later stage.

How to Find and Mine Gems in Runescape Dragonwilds

To mine gems, you need to reach level 16 in Mining and learn the perk called Gem Prospector. It allows you to randomly find gems of the required type depending on the ore you're mining.

Where to Find Opal and How to Mine It

To some extent, opal is the easiest gem to mine since it drops from the most common ores — tin and copper. They can be mostly found in the Fractured Plains location, which is accessible from the very start of the game. Copper is quite common here, but tin is rarer, so opal is actually a bit harder to obtain than it seems, although still easier than other gems.

To mine this gem, use a pickaxe or the Rocksplosion spell. It has an area effect and destroys several ore nodes at once, increasing the chances of obtaining the desired gem. But keep in mind: the region is full of poisonous enemies, so it's worth bringing antidotes or appropriate protective gear.

Where to Find Jade and How to Mine It

Jade can only be obtained from iron nodes, which are exclusively found in the Stormtouched Highlands location. This area is extremely dangerous — it hosts level 4 enemies that deal severe damage. Don't venture there without at least level 3 armor and decent weapons.

Iron deposits are scattered among the rocks and mountains of this region. Don't waste time on regular mining — Rocksplosion will be your best ally in ore extraction. Jade is needed for crafting high-class items: Blightwood Bow and Draconic Staff, making it especially valuable for archers and mages.

Where to Find Red Topaz and How to Mine It

Red topaz is mined from silver nodes. Fortunately, they are often found near gold ones in the Bloodblight Swamp location. This gem is needed for crafting the Red Topaz Machete, which will be useful in the jungles at later stages of the game. Due to the gem's rarity, it's advisable to stockpile it whenever you manage to obtain it.

Where to Find Sapphire and How to Mine It

The last gem, sapphire, only drops from gold nodes located in the eastern part of Ashenfall, in the same Bloodblight Swamp zone. This is also not a beginner-friendly location: poisonous clouds and a hostile environment make survival here nearly impossible without poison resistance potions.

Use a bronze or better pickaxe for mining, but don't neglect spells either. Each destroyed gold node gives a chance for a sapphire. These gems are needed for creating the Staff of Light — a powerful magical weapon. However, the probability of finding this gem is very low.

Tips for Gem Mining

There are no guaranteed ways to obtain an item whose drop is entirely dependent on luck and coded probability numbers. Yet, there are a few recommendations to follow:

  1. Play with other players — mining ore in a team slightly increases your chances of finding gems, though they remain quite low.
  2. Use the Rocksplosion spell — it allows you to destroy ore nodes faster than a regular pickaxe, significantly speeding up the mining process.
  3. Don't focus solely on gem collection — the chances are truly low, and many players complain about spending hours mining without finding a single one. It's better to focus on other aspects of the game and wait for official announcements from the developers — it's entirely possible that there is a bug or overly reduced drop rate that will be fixed later.
