How to Fast Travel in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

The fast travel feature in RuneScape: Dragonwilds allows players to reduce the time spent moving to desired locations in the game world. So if you're tired of walking from one point to another, want to avoid unnecessary encounters with dangers, or need to quickly reach a specific place, you should definitely know how to fast travel in this game.

What are Lodestones in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

In Dragonwilds, access to fast travel between locations is provided by special structures called Lodestones. Unlike many games where you need to find teleport points, here you create them yourself.

The fast travel system in Dragonwilds is not based on classic portals scattered around the world. It's a network that you build yourself, node by node, creating your own map for quick escapes and travels to desired locations.

How to Unlock the Lodestone Recipe

The recipe for building a fast travel structure unlocks after you pick up the Vault Core—one of the items needed for the Lodestone. However, they are not lying around in plain sight. To find even one, you'll have to descend into a Vault—dungeons scattered throughout Ashenfall. They are marked with a special symbol on the map and usually contain several Vault Cores hidden behind traps, puzzles, or enemies.

One of the first Vaults you will visit is likely in Temple Woods—just a bit south of the village where the main storyline begins. Vaults come in varying difficulties, but the first ones can be completed even with basic equipment. Inside, you will find pedestals with Vault Cores. Once you pick one up, the option to build a Lodestone will appear in your construction menu.

How to Create Your First Lodestone

To create a Lodestone, you will need the following materials:

Required Resource
Quantity
Where to Find
Stone
32
Can be gathered from the ground or after breaking boulders with a pickaxe or spells.
Rune Essence
20
Can be extracted from Rune Essence stones using a pickaxe or spells. Usually found in Vaults or floating around Rune Essence geysers.
Vault Core

Once you have gathered everything you need, press the B key (default) to open the construction menu. Find the Lodestone there, create it, and place it in the desired location.

How Fast Travel Works in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

When you interact with a Lodestone, a map with all the points you've built will open. Traveling happens by selecting your destination—but there's a catch: each journey costs Law Runes. This is the teleportation currency, and the cost depends on the distance and your character's weight. Light equipment and short trips are cheap, while long and overloaded ones are more expensive.

Law Runes can be found by defeating enemies, such as goblins, who drop these runes. They can also be created at a Rune Altar if you've reached level 16 in the Runecrafting skill.

For fast travel, stand near a Lodestone and interact with it by pressing the E button. A map will open with available points for travel. Choose the desired location for teleportation.

How to Obtain More Vault Cores

Since each Lodestone structure requires a Vault Core, you'll need to gather quite a few. Typically, each Vault will have 2-3 cores, and they regenerate over time. The previously mentioned Vault in Temple Woods is perfect for farming this resource in the early stages.  It's worth visiting periodically once you've built several Lodestones to expand the network to distant biomes and storyline locations.

Vaults in other regions are more challenging. Some enemies there can kill you in a second if your character is still weak. Ensure you have proper equipment before heading north of Ashenfall. A smart route and a bit of stealth will help you steal the Cores without engaging in unnecessary battles.
