How Many Companions Are There?

In Avowed, you can recruit four main companions: Kai, Marius, Giatta, and Yatzli. Additionally, two temporary companions, Garryck and Ilora, appear early in the game but do not stay for the long run.

You can have up to two active companions at a time, and you can swap them at camp.

All Companions and How to Unlock Them

Kai – Fighter

Unlock Location: Dawnshore, during the main quest "Message from Afar."

Abilities:

• Uses a blunderbuss for ranged damage and melee combat.
• Can taunt enemies, increasing his defenses while keeping enemies focused on him.
• Second Wind ability allows him to revive himself once per battle.
• Can set flammable obstacles on fire, aiding in exploration.

Unfortunately, Avowed does not feature romanceable companions. While some companions engage in flirtatious dialogue, there are no romance mechanics in the game.
