The number of new weapons in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is impressive, allowing players to try different builds and approach bosses in various ways. However, not every weapon type has seen a significant increase in numbers, and one such type is claws, with only three new additions.
The Claws of Night
According to the description, the Claws of Night are steeped in darkness so profound that no light can escape their grasp. This weapon is wielded by Anna, the Swordhand of Night. These claws have a unique forging inscription that allows for a devastating attack, releasing all three blades in a powerful strike. The semi-ethereal nature of the blades makes it impossible for enemies to defend against them.
The Claws of Night are not ordinary weapons. As mentioned, their special blade form allows them to bypass defenses, causing significant bleed buildup with each strike. The true power of this weapon lies in its unique skill, "Scattershot Throw", which lets the wielder throw the claws, unleashing a barrage of attacks on enemies.
The "Scattershot Throw" skill uses forging techniques to create multiple copies of the claws, enabling a continuous onslaught of attacks followed by an additional throw to maximize damage potential.
How to Get Claws of Night
Among the various fist, hand-to-hand, and claw weapons introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the Claws of Night stand out for their significant power, but obtaining them requires considerable time and effort.
To acquire them, you need to complete almost the entire questline of Count Ymir, found in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. In this quest, you must find three hanging horns in finger-shaped locations. Once you find the third horn needed for the quest, you will encounter the invading NPC, Anna, the Swordhand of Night. Defeat her, and the Claws of Night will be yours. You can then continue the questline for a full game experience, but for acquiring this weapon, this will be sufficient.
Compared to some other weapons you can obtain early in the DLC, the Claws of Night are not an easy catch. However, for some, all the effort will be worth it. The claws' power scales with the Dexterity stat (B rating at standard +10) and has an initial bleed ability, but this effect does not improve with the Arcane stat.
Beast Claw
The Beast Claw is another excellent fist weapon introduced in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This weapon allows you to unleash your inner beast, recklessly charging into battle to tear enemies apart. Like many game elements referencing various Souls-like games, the Beast Claw resembles a weapon from Bloodborne.
With the "Savage Claws" skill, you can pounce on enemies like a beast, slashing them with both claws in a frenzied attack. The Beast Claw is perfect for players who enjoy a fast and aggressive combat style. Its insanely fast attack combos allow you to quickly approach enemies after dodging their attacks.
The Beast Claw also inflicts a "Bleed" status without needing to infuse Ashes of War or any weapon effects. This pairs well with the fast attack speed, allowing you to quickly build up the bleed effect on enemies. Additionally, this weapon can stagger lightly armored enemies, potentially keeping them stunned and unable to retaliate.
How to Get Beast Claw
To obtain the Beast Claw, you must defeat Logur, a fierce humanoid enemy who can unleash a series of brutal attacks and heal himself once during the fight. Logur can be found in the forests southeast of the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace. Head southeast from the Site of Grace, penetrate the forest, and carefully search for Logur, who may ambush you from the dense vegetation. Defeat him, and the Beast Claw will be yours.
Red Bear's Claw
Red Bear's Claw is the final type of claw weapon, a subtype of beast claws, introduced in the Elden Ring expansion. This captivating weapon allows you to slash enemies with a series of attacks while looking incredibly cool. It is perfect for players who want to quickly engage in combat and deal significant damage thanks to passive bleed buildup.
How to Get Red Bear's Claw
This weapon has an Ash of War — Red Bear Hunt, which allows you to deliver a powerful blow that forces enemies to retreat. You can follow up with additional strikes. To obtain the Red Bear's Claw, you need to defeat its owner — the Red Bear.
Unlike the Beast Claw, you need to progress further in the game to challenge this boss. Start at the Moorth Ruins, head north through the mountain rift, and continue until you reach the other side. From there, head west through Rauh Base, avoiding the giant enemies with large bows and halberds to save time. Proceed until you see a blocked spirit source, which you must unlock to progress further.
Once you unlock the source, head south and stay along the left wall until you reach a ledge. Break the rocks at the end of the ledge to receive a message that the source is unlocked. Use the source to jump to the northern Nameless Mausoleum, where the Red Bear resides. Defeat it to obtain the Red Bear's Claw and its armor.
Conclusion
All three types of claw weapons in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree offer unique gameplay styles and abilities. Though they are not numerous, each can find its use in combat or simply add to your weapon collection.
