The latest season of Dragonflight has begun, which means we have the opportunity to visit new dungeons to get more unique and powerful equipment, transmogs, and other rewards for completing them. And it's also a great opportunity to test your skills at different dungeon difficulty levels. Our Algeth'ar Academy dungeon guide will help you understand what awaits you there, what tactics to use, and what you should pay attention to.
Algeth’ar Academy Entrance
Algeth'ar Academy is a level 70 dungeon located in Thaldraszus on the Dragon Islands. The closest point of arrival to this location is Algeth'era for both sides of the factions. To reach your destination, you should go east of the landing point and follow it until you see the entrance to Algeth'ar Academy. This guide is designed to cover this dungeon on different difficulty levels, including all bosses, enemies, abilities, etc.
Algeth’ar Academy Mythic Plus tips: after entering the dungeon, go down the invisible bridge to reach an area with five NPCs - these are Dragonflight Recruiters. Each of them offers you a unique buff that will improve one of your parameters and will last until the end of the dungeon. This will help and make the game easier for you, so it is advisable to visit them without fail. However, you should choose carefully and moderately, as one player can choose only one buff. It is best to choose the one that best suits your class or specialisation. Recruiters will offer you the following buffs:
- Bronze Dragonflight Recruiter will give you a Bronze Dragonflight Pledge Pin, which increases the wearer's speed by 5%. This is a fairly versatile effect that is best suited for DPS heroes, particularly mages who are dependent on casting time.
- Blue Dragonflight Recruiter will give you an additional 1109 skill parameter effect thanks to the Blue Dragonflight Pledge Pin buff. Mastery can also be selected for mages or other specialisations whose specialisation or abilities are dependent on this stat.
- Green Dragonflight Recruiter offers the player the Green Dragonflight Pledge Pin, which improves all healing effects on the player by 10%. This is the best buff for tanks that will have to take all the damage from enemies. Now that healers will heal them, their survivability will increase accordingly.
- Red Dragonflight Recruiter can give the hero the Red Dragonflight Pledge Pin buff, which gives 5% versatility. Another parameter that depends on your hero, class, and specialisation.
- The latest Black Dragonflight Recruiter offers an additional 5% to critical damage from the Black Dragonflight Pledge Pin. This is a great buff for DPS heroes to help boost their DPS and thus kill mobs and bosses faster.
The dungeon gives you the freedom to choose where to go and which of the three bosses you go to kill first. However, the last fourth boss, Echo of Doragosa, can only be accessed after defeating all the previous ones.
The Botanica and Overgrown Ancient
After choosing the buffs you need, you can send them to the first boss. Immediately to the right of the location with the recruiters, you can go up the stairs and reach The Botanica area, where the Overgrown Ancient boss is. However, you won't be able to fight him until you defeat all the mobs in this area: three Vile Lashers, six Aggravated Skitterflys, and 24 Hungry Lashers. The latter are nothing special and do not pose a serious threat. They are ordinary mobs that constantly auto-attack, and you can kill them with cleave effects or AoE abilities.
Vile Lasher has only one ability, Detonation Seeds, which is unpleasant in itself. Opponents release large green swirls that deal damage to players and also disorient them for 6 seconds. It is important to avoid these charges so that you don't have to lose a lot of health later. Also, keep in mind that Vile Lasher is not subject to crowd control effects and their abilities cannot be interrupted. The most dangerous of the enemies is the Aggravated Skitterfly, which constantly deals damage to Darting Sting by jumping on the selected target. From time to time, you may be hit by the Agitation effect, which is superimposed, resulting in increased incoming damage. Therefore, it is important that healers monitor the health of other group members and remove this effect with various abilities and dispels.
After defeating all the enemies, we move on to the boss battle. The Overgrown Ancient fills up the energy bar, and when it reaches a hundred, it casts Burst Forth, which deals a lot of damage, and then Hungry Lasher mobs appear from them. The tactics of fighting this boss are not complicated, the main thing is to play together and carefully. When Germinate, you should move in the same direction to defeat the above enemies together and quickly. Beware of Branch Out and moving to the side whenever possible, if you have mobility abilities, this process will become easier. You should interrupt Ancient Branch's abilities, preventing them from using Healing Touch, which heals opponents significantly. It is important not to let the enemies heal and put too many Splinterbark bleeding effects on you.
Algeth’ar Scademy tank guide: If a tank sees a boss cast Barkbreaker on him, then you should use something that increases defence and damage resistance to survive this nasty ability. As soon as Hungry Lasher appears, it is worth luring their attention to yourself, but you should be careful, as they will have an unpleasant effect from Lasher Toxin, which deals damage every 3 seconds for 9 seconds. During this time, healers should keep an eye on the team remove the bleeding effect from them, and maintain high health.
The Pitch and Crawl
After defeating the previous boss, you can move on in a straight line across the invisible bridge. On the way, you'll meet a kind of "mini-boss" called Guardian Sentry. He has a lot of health compared to the usual ones and has several abilities that you should watch out for, including Deadly Winds tornado, and Expel Intruders, which throw the target back and deal damage. The main thing is that your tank should stay as far away from Storm Slash as possible, which will be unpleasant for them. Remember that this enemy is immune to CC.
After defeating this mob, you can go to the next main boss, Crawth. To wake him up, you need to clear three waves of Territorial Eagle and Alpha Eagle. The first ones attack the character with the most threat, i.e. your tank, and apply the bleeding effect. Alpha Eagles have Gust, which knocks you back, and Call of the Flock, which increases their attack speed.
After defeating them, you will have the next task - to throw 3 balls into the ring of fire after which Crawth will appear. The process of fighting the boss will continue the ball game. You have to fight the boss, and when his health level drops to 75% and 45%, you will be allowed to throw the ball into the ring. You will also have the opportunity to use one of the buffs: Goal of the Searing Blaze or Goal of the Rushing Winds. The first one will trigger a Firestorm, during which the boss will take 75% more damage for 12 seconds, but will also throw fireballs at you. The goal of the Rushing Winds is to give you faster movement speed, attacks, and ability casting.
During the battle, Crawth will use Overpowering Gust to knock down its target and deal damage. Since the boss has a powerful Savage Peck ability that deals intermittent damage, tanks should use mitigation to survive this phase and absorb the damage while allies deal with the main DPS. Healers should be ready to save the team during the Deafening Screech and remember that this ability interrupts your casts. On the Algeth’ar Academy Mythic Plus route dungeon difficulty, this ability has a boost from Sonic Vulnerability, the effect of which stacks. To clear it, you need to use Goal of the Rushing Winds or Goal of the Searing Blaze.
Algeth'ar Academy and Vexamus
The next area can be accessed through the western gate from the location where you fought Guardian Sentry. So, how to beat Algeth’ar Academy? It’s quite easy. Among the enemies of this location, you will meet Corrupted Manafiend, whose main ability is Mana Void, which deals damage for 4 seconds and sucks mana from players. Try to interrupt their abilities to make it easier for yourself to pass. The other type of enemy is the Arcane Forager, which is mainly dangerous with its Vicious Lunge ability, which is released at a random target.
Arcane Ravagers have the most health among other local Algeth’ar academy enemies, and they choose the hero who is farthest away from them as their target. They reach their victim with Vicious Ambush and deal damage with Riftbreath, which is triggered every 0.3 seconds for 2.5 seconds. Spellbound Battleaxe will be a major problem for your tanks due to its Severing Slash ability and bleeding effect, so team healers need to support the tank at all costs. Spellbound Scepter will be the most dangerous of all, and you need to use crowd control abilities and interrupt Mystic Blast against it. There's also Unruly Textbook, but it's not a big threat.
After defeating all the enemies, Professor Maxdormu will summon the next boss - Vexamus. He is quite simple. Gradually, he accumulates energy and at the end uses a powerful Arcane Fissure spell, which works several times, dealing a lot of damage, so all defence and damage absorption abilities will be useful here. In addition to the boss himself, Maxdormu will create several Arcane Orbs that the boss will try to absorb to speed up his energy replenishment. Prevent him from doing so. Be careful, as these orbs damage all group members and have a negative effect that can be dispelled. Beware of Corrupted Mana puddles, as being in them deals damage and slows down every second you are in it.
Tanks need to absorb Arcane Orbs and their damage to prevent the boss from gaining power, which requires all damage absorption abilities to maximise their defence. If the boss is directing Arcane Expulsion at your allies, try to get in front of them to absorb the damage instead. During this time, healers should maximise the health of tanks and other teammates whenever possible.
The Headteacher's Enclave and Echo of Doragosa
After defeating Vexamus, you can move on to the next Algeth’ar Academy endgame location - The Headteacher's Enclave, where the last boss of this dungeon, Echo of Doragosa, is located. The local mobs are among the easiest in the entire dungeon, although they are treacherous. Beware of Astral Whirlwind, which is cast by Algeth'ar Enforcer, as their periodic damage is quite high, mostly they pose the greatest danger to melee heroes. Algeth'ar Educator are interesting because they cast Astral Bomb, which also works on the enemies themselves. So you can easily use it against them. After collecting a bunch of mobs, stand close enough to them so that Algeth'ar Educator will hit most of its allies. It is advisable to interrupt their Arcane Missiles ability so that this projectile does not cause you problems. Algeth'ar Nurse is only annoying because it casts Celestial Shield on mobs with low health, and you won't be able to interrupt the casting of this spell. It's best to remove the shields with dispelling effects simply.
A rather difficult battle awaits you, and you shouldn't drag it out. The longer the battle lasts, the harder it will be to defeat the boss. Echo of Doragosa gradually fills up the energy scale, reaching 100 units, it cancels Astral Breath, which acts in a straight line in a cone shape. The Overwhelming Power ability imposes a debuff on the player in the form of a 5% damage reduction. This effect can be applied up to three times, after which Arcane Rift automatically triggers and removes all of these effects. Arcane Rift periodically casts Uncontrolled Energy, which makes the battle more difficult. In addition, the boss will also use Unleash Energy, which will create two more Arcane Rifts.
Regardless of your role, you should keep an eye out for enemy abilities and use personal or group defences to avoid damage from powerful enemy skill sets like Energy Bomb, Astral Breath, and Power Vacuum. Healers need to maintain their health, paying special attention to tanking and melee DPS.
Conclusion
Completing this dungeon will be a challenge even for experienced players. But, by collecting good equipment, learning all aspects of the dungeon, and maintaining communication in the group, you can succeed and easily close Algeth'ar Academy on different difficulty levels to get various rewards and achievements.
