When will Dota 2 Patch 7.39 be released?

The release of patch 7.39 has recently become a hot topic within the Dota 2 community. Many players are anticipating not only balance changes but also the launch of a new Battle Pass. Recent news and insider information suggest that these expectations may soon be rewarded.

Update on the Test Server

On May 16, Valve updated the Dota 2 test client. This typically signals preparation for a major patch. Although details of the changes have not been officially announced, such activity indicates that the developers are already conducting final tests on the new features.

Former pro player and streamer from Team Liquid, Qojqva, noted:

I've heard that the patch will be released at the end of this month or early next month, but it may or may not include a Battle Pass…

This confirms the belief that Valve is working on a significant update, but the question remains whether it will be just a balance patch or also the start of a new event.

Most interestingly, the timing coincides with the start of DreamLeague Season 26, which kicks off on May 19. This is not just a coincidence. Looking at previous seasons, it's clear that DreamLeague has become a magnet for patches:

  • Patch 7.36 was released during DreamLeague Season 23.
  • Patch 7.38 — right in the middle of DreamLeague Season 25.

Valve has repeatedly released major updates during these tournaments, despite the inconvenience for players. Given this trend, DreamLeague S26 seems like the perfect window for the release of the new patch — even if it's in the middle of the group stage.

We believe that patch 7.39 will be released before the start of The International 2025 qualifiers, which begin on June 4. Considering Valve's typical schedule, the patch is expected a week before the qualifiers start — sometime between May 27 and June 1. This will give professional players minimal time to adapt to the changes, which is a common practice before major tournaments.

What Patch 7.39 for Dota 2 Should Include

While Valve keeps the details under wraps, the community has already formed a list of key changes they anticipate:

  • Hero balance changes
  • Addition of Kez to Captains Mode
  • Addition of a section about The International 2025 in the Dota 2 interface

This update is expected to lay the groundwork for TI, after which the most to expect would be hot-fixes.

Will There Be a Battle Pass?

There is currently no confirmation regarding a Battle Pass or another event. Valve has changed its approach in recent years: the traditional Battle Pass with an arcana was replaced by seasonal events and a Compendium. However, considering the pause after the last major content, the chances for something significant this summer are quite high. You can find more information about the potential return of the Battle Pass in 2025 here.

Patch 7.39 is approaching. Everything points to its release before June 4, most likely at the end of May. Players should keep a close eye on the test server and official announcements, as the new meta could change approaches both in regular matchmaking and on the professional scene.
