The titan of NA: how EliGE is rising back to the top of Counter-Strike scene
  • 09:34, 12.12.2023

Every professional esports player's career has its highs and lows. Rarely does everything go smoothly from start to finish, and to make a mark in the history of Counter-Strike or any other discipline, it takes blood, sweat, and tears. Recently, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, the hero of today’s article, has found his form. The American seems to have caught a second wind, and that is what we wish to talk about today.

EliGE has become the MVP of major tournaments four times and has won a number of prestigious championships, most of which occurred in 2019.

Let's refresh our memory: back then, Liquid was almost the only team that could challenge Astralis during their era. Despite the Danes' crazy dominance at that time, EliGE and his teammates became the champions of the second season of the Intel Grand Slam, so gla1ve and company had worthy competition.

In 2023, EliGE left Liquid – he had been playing for the organisation since 2015, spending most of his esports career there. Complexity became the new home for the owner of the most famous smile in Counter-Strike.

Before his arrival, Complexity was not even a leader in their region, but that came to an end as EliGE strengthened the roster enough to easily top the list of American teams, winning several tournaments in the region, but also took second place at IEM Sydney 2023. At that event, the team was just a few rounds away from beating FaZe in the final and lifting the trophy.

Even before these resounding victories in July, EliGE made it clear that Complexity for him was not just a random roster where he would play until the end of his career, sitting on a salary.

Going to Complexity, I just wanted to make sure that I was joining a team that had potential to win, and I think that I made the right choice. I wanted to stay on an NA preferably and bring structure to the team so that they can get to the next level, I think everyone is really talented on this team and I have already seen so many good things.

With his new teammates, the American not only restored faith in the team's potential but also revealed himself personally in terms of individual performance: the star player is rarely below second place in ratings in his team in any official match, and often becomes the best on the entire server. His average rating for the last 15 matches is 6.7. For comparison, the same figures are shown by giants like Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Robin “ropz” Kool.

Complexity is now indisputably the best CS2 team in North America. However, will they be able to maintain this title after Liquid's reshuffle with their return to their home region or after NRG's comeback with a new lineup? The chances of such an outcome are quite high, in recent months, the team has defeated G2, NAVI, Astralis, and Cloud9, and took one map from FaZe and Vitality, the two strongest rosters in the world right now.

Of course, taking just one map from the giants is not the result that the players and fans of Complexity want. Both EliGE and the club would like to climb to the very top. Their next attempt will be at the first Major in CS2, PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 in March. The fact that none of the players in the lineup has become a major champion in CS:GO makes triumphing in Copenhagen an additional motivation for them.
