The Elimination Stage of the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 concluded, determining the eight teams that advanced to the playoffs: The MongolZ, Vitality, G2, Spirit, Liquid, HEROIC, FaZe, and MOUZ. Meanwhile, eight teams faced elimination after fierce competition.
Top Performers and Surprises
The strongest runs came from Vitality and The MongolZ. While Vitality cruised past relatively weaker opponents, The MongolZ faced and defeated formidable teams like G2, MOUZ, and HEROIC. Their remarkable journey secured them a place in the playoffs, making them the first Asian team ever to achieve this milestone at a Major. Their success was built on an impressive map pool and exceptional team play, especially in high-pressure situations.
Teams like G2, Spirit, and Liquid finished with a 3-1 record after bouncing back from opening losses. G2 fell to The MongolZ but managed to recover by defeating BIG, 3DMAX, and FaZe. Spirit dropped their first match to FURIA but rallied through wins over GamerLegion, Liquid, and NAVI. Liquid overcame a shaky start after losing to NAVI but found stability in subsequent matches.
Tough Battles for 3-2 Teams
HEROIC made the playoffs despite a rocky path. Starting 2-0, they suffered losses to The MongolZ and Spirit but redeemed themselves with a crucial win against NAVI. FaZe followed a similar path, losing to HEROIC and G2 before securing their playoff spot by defeating FURIA in a tense elimination match.
MOUZ also earned their place with consistent performances. While not dominant, they showed resilience in tough games, clinching crucial victories over teams like MIBR and Liquid.
Missed Opportunities and Disappointments
Among the eliminated teams, MIBR stood out for an unfortunate collapse. After going 2-0, they dropped three consecutive matches against Vitality, Liquid, and MOUZ, failing to make the playoffs. Among the eliminated teams, NAVI was the biggest disappointment. Coming in as reigning Major champions and the best team of 2024, they were expected to dominate. However, their elimination after losses to MIBR, Spirit, and HEROIC stunned the entire Counter-Strike community.
Other eliminated teams like BIG, 3DMAX, FURIA, and GamerLegion met expectations but fell short against higher-ranked opponents. Their campaigns were marked by valiant efforts but were ultimately cut short by superior competition.
