Counter-Strike 2 has long had a hand-switching feature, but not everyone knows how much easier it has become to change weapon placement. In this guide, we’ll explain how to bind the left hand in CS2.
Default Weapon Side in CS2
By default, weapons in CS2 are displayed on the right side of the screen. Many players dislike this setup, either because they’re used to a different hand placement from earlier CS versions or simply have personal preferences.
Setting Left Hand in CS2
Compared to CS:GO, switching hands in CS2 is even easier, as the settings menu now includes a dedicated bind option. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Launch CS2 and open Settings (gear icon in the top left).
- Go to Keybinds → Weapon Keys → Switch First Person Hand.
- Click on the row and assign any key that feels convenient to you.

That’s it! Once the bind is set, pressing the key will instantly switch your weapon hand. For example, if your gun is in the left hand, pressing the bind will move it to the right, and vice versa.

Setting Left Hand Permanently
You can also set your weapon hand permanently:
- Go to Settings → Game → Item.
- Find the option Main Hand in First Person View.
- Select either Left or Right depending on your preference.

How to Use Hand Switching Effectively
Switching hands in CS2 can be situationally useful, depending on whether you’re peeking from the left or right side of cover. Changing weapon position ensures your gun model doesn’t block key angles where an opponent might appear.

Although constant switching doesn’t usually provide huge advantages, some players enjoy using it to reset knife animations or simply for aesthetics. Still, having a quick bind can occasionally offer a small edge in matches.
