Why Didn't OG Find Their Magic "Formula" For the CS:GO Lineup In 2022?

The European team failed again.

OG left the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2022 without winning a single map and finishing in last place. This is not the club's first failure. Failures constantly haunt the organization, and the team still does not have a single trophy. So what's wrong with the team?

The Beginning Of The Second Half Of 2022

OG seemed to have a great start to the second half of the season, performing well at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups. After that, the team passed the competitive European RMR almost without problems but needed help to get out of the Challengers Stage at the Major. So, was this the first call?

In fact, at the IEM Rio Major, OG also performed well, winning two matches. However, in the final round of the Challengers Stage, the team was unlucky with the opponent. To get to the next stage, OG needed to beat Vitality, which they almost did, but the team couldn't finish the first map in overtime.

Despite the weak result, it looks like a coincidence rather than a regularity upon closer inspection. But what happened at BLAST Premier Fall Finals 2022?

What Went Wrong at BLAST?

After these results, OG came to the BLAST Premier Fall Finals and didn't win a single map. What happened? To understand the reasons for such a failure, you must consider the statistics.

The tournament for OG started with a match against FaZe, which turned out to be a complete rout for the European team. The only player somewhat okay was degster, who finished the match with a rating of 6.2. The rest of the teammates didn't even get to 6. So if you look at this match separately, you can conclude that OG lacks firepower. But let's look at the second match.

OG's statistics in the match against FaZe

There, the situation is almost identical, except that this time two players (degster and flameZ) played tolerably well. And two matches with the same outcome are no longer a coincidence but a regular appearance. OG lacked firepower at BLAST, and the words of nexa confirm this.

Now more than the firepower of degster and flameZ is needed for OG victories. Someone else is needed. Everything is much better if three people play well in a match. Unfortunately, we need more effort from other guys who should show good statistics.

Nexa almost directly says that the OG lacks F1KU and NEOFRAG game presence. But was it always like this? First, let's look at the statistics of these players immediately after joining the team.

F1KU And NEOFRAG Don't Pefrome Well?

BLAST Premier Spring Final 2022 was the first tier-1 tournament for OG with the updated lineup. The European team took 3-4th place, which was a great result, considering that OG could not get to PGL Major Antwerp 2022. However, how did NEOFRAG and F1KU play?

F1KU clearly did not cope with his tier-1 event. The Pole did not play a single match with a rating above 6. His average rating was 5.7.

At the same time, NEOFRAG performed very consistently at the BLAST Premier Spring Final, finished the tournament with an average rating of 6.2, and supported flameZ and degster. Nexa talked about this situation and mentioned that OG needs at least three players who will play well to win.

Let's consider the next tournament where OG performed at a decent level. At BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022, the team lost two BO1 series, after which they lost only one map and left the group in first place.

And F1KU performed mediocre again. The average rating of 5.6 is above the level of a team that wants to win tournaments.

Exactly the same situation was with NEOFRAG. He finished the BLAST Premier Fall Groups with a 5.4 rating. This event's results are earned thanks to degster, flameZ and nexa. Two other players failed in their performances.

At IEM Rio Major 2022, F1KU also failed, and more was needed to pass the Legends Stage. Back then, he showed a stable rating of 5.6.

If NEOFRAG sometimes shows a decent performance, F1KU is definitely not ready for the tier-1 scene. But how did it happen that these players got into OG?

Why Did OG Choose F1KU And NEOFRAG?

Here we come to the root of the problems of the current OG roster. After the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, which the team did not get to, valde and niko were sent to the reserve due to unsatisfactory results. Thus, OG has two free seats left, for which F1KU and NEOFRAG were signed. This decision was definitely not the best, but later, Nexa revealed what was behind it.

Initially, OG wanted to sign a second pair of players. The club was interested in YEKIDAR and jks. Nexa told about this in an interview with Pley.gg at BLAST Premier Spring Final 2022.

We tried to get YEKINDAR, but he cost around a million, so that was not an option. We tried jks, but he wasn't interested, and among the other players, NEOFRAG and F1KU were the best options.

Of course, knowing this information makes it clear why OG shows such results. The club chose not those who were needed but those who were available now, leading to failures.

The situation with degster proves this point of view. The sniper performed brilliantly for OG as a stand-in, after which the club signed him. From this moment on, degster continues to show an excellent level. If all the replacements in OG were like that, the results would be much better.

How Did OG Perform Before?

This is not the first year that is a failure for OG. The organization has never established itself on the tier-1 stage, and its first Major was the tournament in Brazil. It is worth looking at the history of their results.

OG has never been a tier-1 team. If you look at the history of the squads, despite the appearance of famous players, most players who were left without a team got into OG.

The same situation happened with F1KU and NEOFRAG. OG again did not take those they wanted but those who remained. The result is natural - the European team failed again.

Recently, the only exception to this formula has been degster. Sniper became one of the few players OG wanted to have in their team, and signed him. The result was that degster still showed excellent performance and pulled the team forward.

What Should OG Do Next?

The answer to this question is straightforward - they must follow the transfer market. The team clearly needs players who show good individual performance. The team already has a good captain and two excellent shooters, which is better than it was at the beginning of the season.

Now OG has to find at least one more decent shooter who will fulfil his tasks. And not just find him but quickly lure him into buying out or signing someone who they need. The reshuffle will be very soon, and the European team needs to keep their eyes open.
