Aaron "AZR" Ward, whose name has become synonymous with Australian Counter-Strike, is making his return to the big time in cybersport. After missing several years at the top level, he has joined a new TALON team to prepare for qualification to the Shanghai Major.
AZR, who has represented his country at eight majors, has returned to active play after a brief period away from the scene and his return could be an important event for the entire oceanic CS scene.
Important details
AZR, the former captain of teams like Vox Eminor and Renegades, has been struggling with motivation and confidence lately. After a short stint on the Sprout team, he began to question his desire to continue his career. However, the support of friend and teammate, Justin "jks" Savage, brought him back to active play. This allowed AZR to get a taste of competitive CS again, which led him to participate in the new TALON project. In an interview with HLTV he talked about his path and future plans.
A new chapter with TALON
Putting together a new TALON lineup with a focus on the oceanic region has been a challenge and an opportunity for AZR. He explains, "We have to stick to our Australian roots, pick an Oceanic backbone and try to evolve the scene." The team's goal is to make it to the majors, and they are actively training in Europe to achieve that goal. "There's not a lot of time to be honest. We started training two and a half weeks ago, so it's a bit intense, but judging by the results we've shown in the first couple days of training and now, I think we're moving up at a steady pace and it's looking good," AZR adds.
Estimates and outlook
AZR's return to active play is generating interest and positive expectations. The excitement and experience he brings to TALON can greatly improve the team's chances of success. At a time when Asian CS is on the rise, the presence of an experienced figure like AZR could be a catalyst for the region's growth and success.
Final Thoughts
AZR's return to active play and his involvement in the new TALON project is important not only for the team, but for the entire oceanic CS scene. The success of TALON can be an inspiration for younger players and help the region regain its former glory. "Thegoal is to be there for sure," AZR says of the upcoming major. With such attitude and approach the team has all chances for success and long-awaited return to the top of the Counter-Strike world stage.
