Vertigo is again the least popular map at IEM Rio 2024: time for a replacement?

Vertigo was once again the least played map at the IEM Rio 2024 tournament, where it was used only twice during the entire duration of the matches. This trend has been observed for several major tournaments, and more and more players and analysts are discussing the possibility of replacing this map with more popular alternatives.

Over the past few tournaments, Vertigo has either been played a minimal number of times or ignored altogether in professional matches. The question of whether it should remain in the active map has long been raised in the CS2 community, and perhaps it's time for a change.

Possible alternatives to replace Vertigo

Some classic maps that have been part of the game in the past, but were removed from the active mappool for various reasons, may be brought back to replace Vertigo. Here are some maps that could replace Vertigo:

  1. Cache: Known for its speed and aggressive playstyle, Cache was popular before it was removed. The restored version of this card has already been tested several times at tournaments, and many professional players have expressed interest in its return.
  2. Overpass: One of the most unique maps in the game, which is famous for its complex design and the ability to use different strategies. The return of Overpass could give the game more variety.
  3. Cobblestone: One of the most beloved maps among fans and players, which was removed a few years ago. An updated version of Cobblestone may return as a great alternative.
  4. Tuscan: A historical map from the days of CS 1.6 that was key in professional matches at the time. Its return could be a breath of fresh air for the professional scene and a new challenge for teams.

What's next for Vertigo?

Valve has not yet made any official statements regarding possible changes to the map, but with each tournament, more and more teams and players are expressing dissatisfaction with Vertigo. If the popularity of this map continues to decline, we can probably expect its replacement in the near future.

Vertigo remains a question mark in professional matches, but who knows, maybe in the future we will see the return of our favorite maps such as Cache, Cobblestone, or Tuscan.
