The official Counter-Strike 2 account on X liked a user's comment demanding the return of the legendary map de_cache. This gesture has sparked a storm of discussions—many see it as a hint at the potential return of a remake of the map, which is considered one of the best in the series' history.
How Cache Disappeared and Why It's Being Talked About Again
The original version of de_cache was created by FMPONE, and after the transition to the Source 2 engine, the developer announced that the map had been purchased. According to him, the new owner is Valve themselves. Since then, the map has not appeared in CS2, but the community continues to inquire about its future.
Historically, Cache held immense popularity in the professional CS:GO scene, especially between 2016 and 2019. Its balance, open shootouts, and memorable architecture made it an iconic arena for Major series tournaments.

Why the Return of Cache Seems Realistic
In CS2, there is a pattern: developers update the active map pool after each Major tournament.
- After the PGL Major Copenhagen, Overpass was removed from the pool, and Dust2 was brought back.
- Following the Perfect World Shanghai Major, Vertigo was replaced with Train.
- And after the BLAST Austin Major, Anubis made way for Overpass.
This cyclicity maintains interest in the game and balances between classic and new arenas. Therefore, the possible return of Cache in one of the upcoming seasons seems not only logical but also anticipated by the community.

The return of Cache could revitalize the CS2 meta and add a nostalgic touch to the game, which is currently lacking after a series of technical updates. If the map does indeed return to the tournament pool, it will not only symbolize continuity between CS:GO and CS2 but also indicate Valve's attention to community requests.
