After winning the Thunderpick World Championship 2023, which was held online, FaZe Clan rifler Russell Twistzz Van Dulken shared his opinion on playing Counter-Strike with high ping.
Let's remember that today the North American organization FaZe Clan became the champions of the Thunderpick World Championship 2023 by defeating team Virtus.pro with a score of 2:0 (Ancient 13:10, Vertigo 19:17) in maps. The champions earned $250,000!
Twistzz:
For most of the tournament, I played with a ping of 40-80. CS2 felt incredibly unstable, affecting movement, hits, and shooting. In the moment with the clip, I knew I didn't switch to the opponent in time, but somehow I killed him, although I didn't see him on my screen. Probably because of the ping, but it's not that important. Why did this happen? Is the hitbox model lagging? A ping of 45 in CS2 feels like 70 in CS:GO, and since the peeker's advantage occurs more often, it seems that ping has become more important. When I played with a ping of 5-10, I had time to react when holding angles, now, with much higher ping, I have to prefire or else I get a bullet in the head. I don't remember that being the case in CS:GO.
Twistzz also pointed out areas on the Overpass and Ancient maps that present problems for player movement.
The change in elevation on Overpass appeared in one of the latest updates and I don't understand why it exists. Very annoying.
Considering the developers' ambition to continuously improve the game, it is expected that all the mentioned flaws will be fixed in the upcoming update.
According to preliminary information, for Twistzz, this was the last tournament in FaZe Clan, after which he will return to North America and will play for Team Liquid, but there is no official confirmation of this.
The Thunderpick World Championship 2023 took place from October 27 to November 5 online. Teams competed for a prize pool of $500,000. Follow the schedule, news, and results of the tournament via the link.
