A Fan Theory About Silent Hill 2 Turns Out To Be True!

One of the developers of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Mateusz Lenart, confirmed a fan theory about the "time loop" and congratulated a player who managed to solve one of the secret puzzles, which served as confirmation of this. This was revealed in a post on the social media platform Twitter.

Attention, there are spoilers!

Recently, a thread appeared on Reddit, in which the author using the nickname DaleRobinson solved the puzzle with collectible photos. Throughout the game, players could find 26 photos, each containing an image and a short description. Most perceived these photos simply as collectibles, but as it turned out, there was more to it.

Dale Robinson decided to match the number of items in the photos in Silent Hill 2 to the corresponding ordinal letter in the text. For instance, in the first photo, you can count 6 windows, and thus the number 6 corresponds to the letter Y from the phrase: "SO MANY PEOPLE HERE!"

By decoding all 26 photos, he managed to get the phrase: "YOU'VE BEEN HERE FOR TWO DECADES."

This confirmed the fan theory that the main character of Silent Hill 2, James Sunderland, is trapped in a time loop, reliving all the events of the game over and over again as penance for the murder of his wife Mary. This theory was hinted at by numerous other details throughout the game, but this Easter egg became the primary confirmation of the theory.

Bloober Team's creative director Mateusz Lenart congratulated the user for solving this puzzle, as within the team, developers considered it might be too challenging.

Despite the fact that the idea of a "time loop" in Silent Hill 2 was indeed quite obvious, many players were reluctant to believe it, considering it dull or uninteresting. After the confirmation, they were left disappointed. However, this Easter egg seems quite logical and interesting to us, much like the game itself.
