Sony has officially announced a new episode of State of Play, entirely dedicated to Ghost of Yōtei. The presentation will take place on the night of July 11.

This will be the first major gameplay showcase of the new PlayStation 5 exclusive from Sucker Punch a spiritual successor to Ghost of Tsushima, set hundreds of years after the events of the original game.

What Sony Will Show

Presentation will last approximately 20 minutes. Main highlight will consist of a gameplay trailer which will show the game's basics, battle system, open world, and direction of storyline.

It will be directed by Jason Connell and Nate Fox, who are creative directors of the game.

According to PlayStation's official blog, there will be a “deep dive into gameplay” that will feature exploration elements and combat encounters.

Key Details About Ghost of Yōtei

It takes place on Hokkaido Island, some 300 years later than in Ghost of Tsushima. It's an entirely new franchise chapter that includes a brand-new setting, hero, and storyline.

The battle system has been redone: in addition to traditional swords, guns are now present that will make battles more diverse. Stealth and jumping between rooftops are also back, but their systems have been expanded once more.

Care is also taken with atmosphere. Hokkaido's northern climate is represented faithfully: snow-covered plains, devastating blizzards, northern lights, and stormy weather — all carrying their own unique mood, differing from that of the original Ghost of Tsushima.

Following the presentation, less than three months will remain before launch. Ghost of Yōtei will be released on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. It’s expected to be one of the major PS5 exclusives of the fall season.
