The 46th season of ESEA will be held at CS2 - the organizers moved the start of tournaments

According to one of the administrators, ESEA, a well-known external matchmaking service and organizer of CS:GO tournaments, decided to postpone the start of the upcoming competitive season (ESEA Season 46), waiting for the global release of CS2.

This information first appeared on Dust2.us. Every season the ESEA organizes tournaments for different levels of competition:

  • ESEA Open
  • ESEA Intermediate
  • ESEA Main
  • ESEA Advanced
  • ESL Challenger League (ECL).

Small and beginner teams have a theoretical opportunity to go from Open to ECL, where they can qualify for the world famous ESL Pro League, which gathers almost all the best CS teams in the world.

An ESEA administrator explained that the delay was caused by not wanting to switch from CS:GO to CS2 in the middle of season 46 to avoid possible problems with the integrity of the competition. Season 46 was scheduled to begin in July, but at this point, ESEA decided to wait for the release of CS2 and conduct preliminary tests. The administrator noted that "the likelihood of a season in early or mid/July is extremely low."

Such plans are in line with ESL's statements regarding the possible use of CS2 at IEM Cologne, one of the world's most prestigious CS cybersports tournaments, due to take place in July. ESL has expressed a "cautiously optimistic" stance regarding holding IEM Cologne at CS2, but it will only happen if the game is competitive enough.

At this time, it remains unclear when CS2 will be fully ready to host professional tournaments. Valve has announced that an official release is planned for the summer, but the game is still in an almost incomplete version, and developers are actively fixing bugs identified by players in the Mirage beta.
