Gaimin Gladiators earned the right to represent Denmark at the CS World Championship by defeating Team Sashi in the Danish qualifier for the IESF World Esports Championship 2024. Salazar, who was born and raised in Denmark, will be representing his country on the international stage in Counter-Strike for the first time, and it makes him proud. "Of course, it means a lot to go out and represent the country you were born in. It's akin to playing for the national team in soccer or handball," he noted in an interview with Dust2.dk.
The Gaimin Gladiators team finds itself in a tough group that includes Hungary, Kosovo, Slovakia, Ireland and Wales. Salazar sees Slovakia as a potentially strong opponent, especially because of the players Sampi, STYKO from Monte and matys from fnatic. Despite the challenges, the team is focused on winning, "We expect to do our best and of course go all the way. We'll be playing with a spare, but I'm sure we can get the most out of it," Salazar added.
After a disappointing performance in Mongolia, the team is strongly motivated to qualify for another LAN tournament overseas. "I think it's no secret that the result in Mongolia was unacceptable. We will definitely do our best to qualify and show that we still have what it takes to play where it's fun," Salazar emphasized.
Onlookers could spot the Philippine flag on Salazar's jersey, reflecting his close connection to his roots. In an interview with RushB Media, he said: "I'm very family-oriented, because my mother is from the Philippines. So it's very important to me that the Filipino flag also appears in the world, especially in CS."
Denmark currently has a 2-1 scoreline in the group, having lost to Ireland but with wins over Kosovo and Wales. The fourth match against Hungary, the group leaders, starts today. Salazar and his team are ready to fight for a spot in the Counter-Strike World Championship.
